Daying (LI 5), Guanchao (SI 18), Tinghui (GB 2), and Quchi (LI 11) treat toothache accompanied by aversion to cold. (From *Qianjin Fang*) Fubai (GB 16) treats toothache causing inability to speak. Yanggu (SI 5) and Zhengying (ST 17) treat wind-induced toothache. Moxibustion is applied to Jiaomai (EX-UE 9), located anterior to the high bone above the lateral malleolus, for two moxa cones. Alternatively, measure the distance from the tip of the middle finger to the distal palmar crease with a thread, divide this length into four parts, and take one part. Measure backwards from the crease to the middle of the arm; moxibustion of two cones at this location cures the condition. Treat the affected side.
An elderly woman suffered from chronic toothache. Someone instructed her to cross both palms and use the tip of the middle finger as the acupoint, applying seven moxa cones, after which she never suffered pain again. This is likely Waiguan (TE 5). The point is located in the depression two cun posterior to the wrist on the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. The wife of the Zhaizi (an official title) of the Nie Si also previously suffered from toothache. Others treated her by moxibusting near the hand's lateral malleolus point, slightly anteriorly, resulting in permanent relief. However, it is unclear whether the "above the lateral malleolus" mentioned in *Qianjin Fang* refers to the foot or the hand. Those knowledgeable should distinguish this.
Yifeng (TE 17) treats pain in the mandible (Ya Che). (Mentioned in the mouth section of *Tongren Shuxue Zhenjiu Tujing*). Daying (ST 5) treats toothache and swelling of the cheek and jaw. (See Feng Jing section). Qubin (GB 7) treats swelling of the cheek and jaw, restricting the mandible so that the mouth cannot open. (See detailed discussion on Cheek and Jaw). Zhengying (ST 17) treats toothache, tightness and stiffness of the lips and mouth, and carious toothache. Yangxi (LI 5), Xuanlu (GB 6), and Shousanli (LI 10) treat toothache. (See Head section). Shangyang (LI 1) treats toothache with aversion to cold. (See He Zhong section). Duanduan (CV 25) treats gingival pain. Xiaohai (SI 8) treats gingival swelling due to alternating chills and fever, wind vertigo, and neck pain. Shangguan (ST 7) (Same as *Tongren*) treats wind-toothache, lockjaw (Kou Jin), inability to open the mouth, and clicking sounds when chewing. (According to *Mingtang*). Jueyinshu (BL 19) treats toothache. (See Ke Ni section). The *Liangfang* records a method for moxibustion treating toothache: On the affected side, locate the shoulder tip, slightly posterior towards the bone gap. Raise the arm slightly to find the depression at the joint. Apply five moxa cones. I personally treated several people with this method, all were cured. After moxibustion, severe neck pain occurred, subsiding only after a long time, but the toothache never recurred. I myself suffered from toothache which resisted all treatments, but was cured using this method.
Xin Shuai previously suffered from Shanghan (Cold Damage). After recovering, he ate green plums, leading to severe toothache. A Daoist priest treated him by moxibusting the depression proximal to the base of the thumb while flexing the thumb, applying three cones. Upon the first application, the painful tooth felt itchy; upon the second, the teeth made a sound; after three cones, the pain ceased. It has been twenty years since then. This is likely the Yangxi point. (*Tongren* states it treats toothache. The Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian enters the gum spaces; left-sided pain is treated by moxibusting the right side, and vice versa.)
