Baihui (DU20) treats prolapse of the rectum. (*Mingtang Jing* Lower Volume) states: it treats adult and pediatric rectal prolapse. *Tongren Shuxue Zhenjiu Tujing* states: it treats chronic pediatric rectal prolapse that fails to heal. Qibo records treating pediatric bloody diarrhea. If it persists into late autumn, moxibustion at Guwei (DU1) for one moxa cone is indicated. Guwei refers to the coccyx (Qionggu). Huangdi records moxibustion for pediatric gan accumulation and dysentery causing rectal prolapse. Pediatric dysentery with rectal prolapse (also seen in cases of dysentery). For pediatric rectal prolapse, moxibustion at the center of the hair whorl on the vertex for three cones will cause the prolapse to retract. (*Qianjin Fang*) Alternatively, moxibustion at the tailbone (Weicui) for three cones. Or moxibustion at Shenque (CV8), with the number of cones corresponding to the patient's age. For cold-induced rectal prolapse, moxibustion at the coccyx for seven cones leads to immediate recovery. (*Shenying Jing*) Another method: moxibustion at Shenque (CV8), with cones corresponding to age. (*Qianjin Yifang*) Moxibustion at Henggu (KI11) for one hundred cones. Or moxibustion at Guwei (DU1) for seven cones. (Qionggu, i.e., the coccyx.) I had a young daughter who suffered from dysentery with rectal prolapse. I passed down a prescription using a handful of herbal tea leaves and seven slices of ginger, decocted and taken orally, which cured her. However, the source of this prescription was unknown. Later, upon reading Su Dongpo's writings, I learned that chewing ginger and brewing tea was a formula used by Su Dongpo to treat Wen Lugong's dysentery. Therefore, it is appended here.
(Soft tissue tension and flaccidity; see chapters on limb spasms for other instances.)
In all cases of Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome) accompanied by headache, chest fullness, wheezing during respiration, and severe dyspnea, Renying (ST9) is the primary point. (*Qianjin Fang*) Juxue (CV14), (*Mingtang Jing* states: treats Huoluan with loss of consciousness.) Zhongchong (LR1), Zhigou (TE6), Gongsun (SP4), and Yinlingquan (SP9) treat Huoluan. Taiyin (SP3), Dabu (SP2), Jinmen (BL63), and Pusan (BL60) treat Jueni Huoluan (cold extremities with Huoluan). Taibai (SP3) treats rebellious Qi in Huoluan. Yuji (LU10) treats Stomach rebellious Qi Huoluan. Chengjin (BL57) treats numbness of the lower legs due to Huoluan. Chengjin (BL57), Pusan (BL60) (see Shijue chapter), Jiexi (ST41), and Yinlingquan (SP9) (see Shanqi chapter) treat Huoluan. Jinmen (BL63), Pusan (BL60), Chengshan (BL57), and Chengjin (BL57) treat Huoluan with muscle cramps. (*Qianjin Fang*) Chengshan (BL57) treats Huoluan with muscle cramps and difficult defecation. (*Tongren Shuxue Zhenjiu Tujing*) Jinmen (BL63) treats Huoluan with muscle cramps. Ququan (LR8) (see Shanqi chapter), Xuanzhong (GB39) (see knee spasm chapter), Yangfu (GB38) (see knee pain chapter), Jinggu (BL64) (see foot numbness chapter), and Weishu (BL21) treat tendon contractions (see abdominal distension chapter). Pusan (BL60) (see foot pain chapter), Qiaoyin (GB44) (see infertility chapter), Zhiyin (BL67) (see headache chapter), Jiexi (ST41) (see wind chapter), and Qiuxu (GB40) (see axillary swelling chapter) treat muscle cramps. Biguan (ST31) treats tendon network tension. (*Tongren Shuxue Zhenjiu Tujing* see knee pain chapter) Fuxi (BL37) treats Small Intestine heat, Large Intestine stagnation, tension of the lateral thigh tendons, and numbness of the hip joint. Quchi (LI11) treats tendon flaccidity, inability to grasp objects, inability to draw a bow, difficulty in flexion and extension, thin and weak arms and elbows. Zhongdu (GB34) treats cold pathogen lodging between muscle spaces, causing pain radiating up and down, and tendon bi-syndrome with numbness. Chengjin (BL57) treats cold binding causing muscle cramps, calf swelling, difficult defecation, heavy and sore feet, and traction pain in the lower abdomen. Weizhong (BL40) (see foot weakness chapter), Fuyang (BL59), and Chengshan (BL57) (see waist and foot chapter) treat tendon tension. (*Mingtang Jing* Lower Volume) Zhang Zhongwen uses moxibustion for foot tendon tension (see waist and foot chapter). Qibo treats unbearable foot muscle cramps by moxibusting one cone above the ankle. For inner tendon tension, moxibustion is applied medially; for outer tendon tension, laterally. Jiexi (ST41) governs heavy knees, foot muscle cramps, and damp-bi. (*Qianjin Fang*) Qiaoyin (GB44) governs four-limb muscle cramps. Dayuan (LU22) governs blue eyes, muscle cramps, alternating chills and fever, and pulling pain in the Clavicular fossa. Qiuxu (GB40) governs acute foot pain and swelling, trembling inability to stand for long periods, and dorsum foot contraction. Weizhong (BL40) and Weiyang (BL39) govern tendon tension with body heat. Ganshu (BL18) governs tendon cold-heat spasms and tendon tension with hands pulling each other. Xinshu (BL15) and Ganshu (BL18) govern tendon tension with hands pulling each other, muscle cramps entering the abdomen, and excruciating pain. Have four people hold the patient's limbs, then moxibustion at two cun to the left of the umbilicus for fourteen cones. (*Beiji Qianjin Yaofang*) *Qianjin Fang* states: fourteen cones at one cun above the umbilicus. For muscle cramps, moxibustion at Yongquan (KI1) for six or seven cones. (*Qianjin Fang*) For muscle cramps with four-fold reversal, moxibustion at Rugen (ST18) at the junction of black and white skin for one cone. If hands and feet are cold, moxibustion at Sanyinjiao (SP6) for fourteen cones. For Huoluan where the patient appears dead but has warm breath, moxibustion at Chengjin (BL57) for seven cones can revive them. Another method: place salt in the umbilicus and moxibustion for fourteen cones. For stiff back and waist, muscle cramps, and tendon contractions, moxibustion at the 21st thoracic vertebra, with cones corresponding to age. For muscle cramps in the arms and chest, moxibustion at the white flesh margin of the palm for seven cones. Also moxibustion at Danzhong (CV17), Zhongfu (LU1), Juxue (CV14), Weiguan (CV12/Zhongwan), and Chize (LU5), all treating tendon拘挛 (contraction/spasm) so that head and feet recover. For abdominal distension with muscle cramps, moxibustion at one cun above the umbilicus for fourteen cones. There were patients whose bodies were curved and unable to walk, or had swollen and painful knees immobile. I treated them by moxibusting Yanglingquan (GB34), and they all recovered. I have saved over a hundred people; the effect is miraculous. (For those with vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle cramps, I taught them to moxibust at Shuifen (CV9) to stop symptoms.) For muscle cramps with ten fingers contracted and unable to flex or extend, moxibustion seven cones above the lateral malleolus of the foot. (See *Qianjin Fang* for more.)
