Ten Acupoints on the Third Row of the Face, Left and Right
Yangbai (GB14): There are two acupoints. They are located one cun above the eyebrows, directly in line with the pupil vertically. Moxibustion: three moxa cones. Acupuncture: insert 2 fen deep.
Chengqi (ST1): There are two acupoints. They are located seven fen below the eyes, in the depression directly in line with the pupil vertically. Needling is contraindicated; needling may cause darkening of the eye area (black discoloration). Moxibustion: three moxa cones, with cone size like a large barley grain. Dietary restriction: After consuming meat, swelling in the affected area may gradually increase to the size of a peach, taking thirty days to resolve completely. If vision is not impaired, it is acceptable; if swelling becomes as large as five sheng (a unit of volume), vision may be obstructed.
The *Tongren* (Silver Man) text states: This acupoint can be treated with three moxa cones. Needling is contraindicated; needling may cause darkening of the eye area. The *Mingtang* (Hall of Light) text states: Needle insertion depth is four and a half fen, but moxibustion is particularly inadvisable. If moxibustion is performed, swelling under the eye may become as large as a fist. Both texts must have their own basis, and it is unknown which is correct. It is permissible to perform neither needling nor moxibustion.
Sibai (ST2): There are two acupoints. They are located one cun below the eyes. Moxibustion: seven moxa cones. Acupuncture: insert 3 fen deep. When using needles, one must be steady and cautious. If inserted too deeply, it will cause darkening of the eye area.
Dicang (ST4): There are two acupoints. They are located four and a half fen lateral to the corner of the mouth. One can identify them by the slight pulsation of the vessel nearby. Acupuncture: insert 3 fen deep. (*Mingtang* states: insert 3.5 fen deep). Retain the needle for five breaths (hu).
Daying (ST5): There are two acupoints. They are located one cun and two fen anterior to the angle of the mandible, in the depression where the artery pulses. Alternatively, they can be needled at the point directly below the mouth, aligned with the shoulders, inserting 3 fen deep. Retain the needle for seven breaths. Moxibustion: three moxa cones.
Ten Acupoints on the Fourth Row of the Face, Left and Right
Benshen (GB13): There are two acupoints. They are located one cun and a half lateral to Qucha (DU7). Another theory states: directly above the ear, entering the hairline by four fen. Acupuncture: insert 2 fen deep. Moxibustion: seven moxa cones. (These two descriptions differ significantly and are questionable. *Qianjin Fang* states: two fen above the straight part of the ear, entering the hairline.)
Sizhukong (TE23): There are two acupoints. Also known as Mu Chuan (Note: Text says "Mu [blank]", likely referring to an alias or typo in original, translated as alias). They are located in the depression behind the eyebrows. Acupuncture: insert 3 fen deep. Retain the needle for two breaths. Dispersion (Xie) method is suitable; tonification (Bu) method is not. Moxibustion is contraindicated, as it may cause the eyes to appear smaller or lead to loss of vision.
Tongziliao (GB1): There are two acupoints. They are located five fen lateral to the outer canthus of the eye. Moxibustion: three moxa cones. Acupuncture: insert 3 fen deep. Commentary on *Suwen*: Located at the outer canthus, five fen away. Commentary on *Qianjin Fang*: Also known as Taiyang, also known as Qianguan.
Quanliao (SI18): There are two acupoints. They are located at the lower border of the zygomatic bone, in the depression at the end of the Dui bone (zygomatic process). Acupuncture: insert 2 fen deep.
Touwei (ST8): There are two acupoints. They are located at the frontal angle of the head, entering the hairline one cun and a half lateral to Benshen (GB13). Acupuncture: insert 3 fen deep. Moxibustion is contraindicated. (Benshen is located one cun and a half lateral to Qucha).
