Whenever one intends to perform acupuncture, one must carefully examine the acupoints. It is essential to understand the techniques of tonification and sedation, specifically the "Ying-Sui" (Following and Opposing) principles. The selection of points on the chest and back differs between the left and right sides. Distinctions must be made regarding respiration, Yin and Yang, as well as gender. For qi stagnation in both breasts, seek the Taiyuan (LU-9) point. If there is no response, sedate the Lieque (LU-7) point. Lieque treats headache and lateral or frontal headaches. Heavily sedating Taiyuan yields effective results without exception. For deafness accompanied by qi obstruction, needle the Tinghui (GB-2) point; sedating the Yingxiang (LI-20) point yields miraculous efficacy. Who knows that the Tiantu (CV-22) point can treat throat wind? For deficiency-type asthma, one must seek the Zusanli (ST-36) point. When arm pain radiates to the shoulder and spine, causing unbearable suffering, needle Hegu (LI-4) combined with Taichong (LR-3). For dysfunction of both hands, needle Quchi (LI-11); when needling Hegu, care must be taken. For heart pain accompanied by hand tremors, treat within Shaohai (HT-3); to eradicate the root cause, seek Yinshi (SP-8). Whenever typhoid fever causes bilateral deafness, use Ear Gate (TE-21) and Tinghui (GB-2), with effects swift as wind. For five types of elbow pain, seek Chize (LU-5); after needling Lengyuan (SI-10), success is achieved. For disorders of the upper and lower limbs, needle Zusanli (ST-36); for food accumulation and qi masses, this point is selected. Jiutui (CV-15) can treat five types of epilepsy; however, needling Yongquan (KI-1) deeply may lead to death (Note: Context implies caution or contraindication). For gastric accumulation, needle Xuanji (CV-15); Zusanli (ST-36) has great merit but is often unknown. Yinlingquan (SP-9) treats chest and abdominal fullness; upon needling Chengshan (BL-57), appetite returns. Connecting Dashu (BL-11) with Changqiang (GV-1), needle immediately for small intestine qi pain. Weizhong (BL-40) specializes in treating waist pain; for swollen feet and knees, seek Zhiyin (BL-67). For waist pain due to qi stagnation preventing standing, Henggu (KI-12) and Dadu (SP-13) can provide emergency relief. Qihai (CV-6) specifically treats five types of strangury; additionally, needle Zusanli (ST-36) coordinated with respiration. When Jingming (BL-1) fails to treat eye diseases, how can Hegu (LI-4) and Guangming (GB-37) be omitted? Renzhong (GV-26) has the highest efficacy in treating epilepsy; edema is resolved through Shuifen (CV-9) and Qihai (CV-6). For cold coughs, first tonify Hegu (LI-4); then sedate Sanyinjiao (SP-6) via needling. For toothache, lower back pain, and pharyngeal obstruction, Erjian (LI-2) and Yangxi (LI-5) cannot escape treatment. Furthermore, Sanjian (LI-3) and Shenshu (BL-23) are excellent for removing floating wind and labor from the shoulder and back. If needling Jianjing (GB-21), one must also use Zusanli (ST-36); otherwise, qi will not be regulated. Most notably, the Yanglingquan (GB-34) point is used for knee pain via needle-moxibustion (burning). For foot pain and knee swelling, needle Zusanli (ST-36); combine Xuanzhong (GB-39), Erling (Yanglingquan GB-34 and Yinlingquan SP-9), and Sanyinjiao (SP-6). Further guide qi to Taichong (LR-3), and numbness in the fingertips will naturally dissipate. For muscle spasms, pierce Chengshan (BL-57) and Kunlun (BL-60); Yuji (LU-10) instantly eliminates dizziness. For abdominal pain, Gongsun (SP-4) is exquisite; Neiguan (PC-6) corresponds and ensures cure. Cold wind and cold bi syndromes are difficult to heal; Huantiao (GB-30) [Text notes: Eight points of Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian - likely a textual error in source as Huantiao is Gallbladder] should be needled and burned. For typhoid on the second day, seek Fengfu (GV-16); for vomiting, Shangwan (CV-13) is required. For women's heart pain, use Fenglong (ST-40) [Dacheng text says Xinshu BL-15]; for jia and pi masses, the high position of Zusanli (ST-36) is used. For involuntary urination, Guanyuan (CV-4) is good; for severe constipation, moxa Dajun (LR-14). For hip and leg pain, sedate Zusanli (ST-36); Fuliu (KI-7) treats qi stagnation causing lumbar separation/pain. If encountering seven types of hernia with lower abdominal pain, needle Zhaohai (KI-6), Yinjiao (RN-7), and Ququan (LR-8). If still ineffective, seek Qihai (CV-6); simultaneously sedating Guanyuan (CV-4) yields divine efficacy. Small intestine qi knotting causes pain radiating to the navel; quickly sedate Yinjiao (RN-7) without delay. After some time, needle Yongquan (KI-1) to retrieve qi; the profound mystery here is known by few. For pediatric rectal prolapse persisting for a long time, first moxa Baihui (GV-20), then moxa the tailbone [Dacheng text says Jiutui CV-15, which is an error]. For chronic typhoid with shoulder and back pain, only needle Zhongzhu (TE-3) to achieve appropriateness. For shoulder pain radiating to unceasing abdominal pain, seek Hand-Zusanli (LI-10/extra point context or ST-36 reference). Upon needling, if numbness and heaviness occur, apply sedation immediately; do not retain the needle when Deqi (arrival of qi) is obtained. For most urgent throat conditions, first use Baihui (GV-20); combine with Taichong (LR-3), Zhaohai (KI-6), and Yinjiao (RN-7). For persistent dysphagia, moxa Qihai (CV-6); sedating Zusanli (ST-36) resolves it instantly. To force qi out during sedation, require the patient to inhale; for tonification, follow exhalation to self-regulate.
