Question: Why do adults and children suffer from "sparrow eyes" (night blindness), unable to see objects during the Shen and You hours (3 PM to 7 PM)? Answer: This is due to Liver deficiency where pathogenic heat has caused injury. The meridians are stagnant and unharmonious, Yin and Yang are disharmonious, and Ying and Wei Qi fail to circulate smoothly, resulting in dim vision at night. Treatment method: It is suitable to take Wudan Wan (Five Gall Bladder Pills), Bifugan San (Bat Liver Powder), or also Cangying San (Fly Wing Powder) and Zhugan San (Pig Liver Powder) as the main treatment. Eye drops are not required. For cases of extreme deficiency, tonifying medicines may be used, adjusted according to the situation.

Grind the above herbs into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with rice soup. If bat liver is unavailable, take one piece of sheep liver, cut it into four pieces, mix with 1-2 qian of the herbal powder inside the liver, tie securely with hemp thread, and boil in a jar with rice water until cooked. On the morning of the next day, remove the sheep liver and medicine, chew thoroughly, and consume together with the cooking juice for efficacy. For individuals with weak constitutions, taking tonifying medicines is also advisable; forming them into pills is particularly excellent.
Tai Feng Chi Lan (Fetal Wind Red Rot) presents with three types of etiology: Initially, blood enters the eye and is not cleaned properly, leading to this disease and subsequent redness and rotting; Another type originates from the fetal stage in the womb. If the mother does not observe dietary restrictions and consumes many cloying and toxic foods, such as alcohol, wheat products, and the Five Pungent Spices, by the time the child is three or four months old, both eyes become double red with sticky discharge, redness, and wet rotting. This is caused by fetal toxicity; because the fetus drinks maternal blood, the blood toxins affect the infant, manifesting after birth; A third type occurs when the nursing mother has a robust constitution. While holding the infant to nurse, if the infant has not yet suckled, the nipple milk becomes distended and sprays out suddenly, entering the infant's eyes can also cause this rotting and wet condition. If it sprays onto the face, it can cause macules, wet sores, and itching. Generally, these three conditions are collectively called Tai Feng Chi Lan. However, one must understand the internal causes: for those caused by unclean blood residue and milk spraying, Bi Tian Dan (Blue Sky Pill) should be used for washing; for those caused by fetal toxicity, Sanhuang Wan (Three Yellow Pills) must be taken again, along with dietary restrictions. The infant can also be fumigated and washed with Sanhuang Tang (Three Yellow Decoction), and treated with seasonal eye drops. Internal medication should include Xiaofangfeng Tang (Minor防风 Decoction), Xiaochengqi Tang (Minor Chengqi Decoction), Xiaojuhua Gao (Minor Chrysanthemum Ointment), and Daochi San (Guide Out Redness Powder). These formulas are selected based on cold or heat patterns. If a young boy suffers from eye disease, the treatment method also uses these formulas with modifications, applying seasonal eye drops.
