Treats Taiyang disease after excessive sweating, resulting in continuous leakage of sweat. The patient experiences aversion to wind, difficulty in urination, slight stiffness and tension in the four limbs, making flexion and extension difficult.
Use the original Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), adding Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root). (One piece, processed, skin removed, broken into eight pieces)
The above six ingredients are coarsely crushed, boiled with seven sheng of water until three sheng remain, strained, and taken warm, one sheng at a time.
The verse states: Sweating due to over-induction leads to endless leakage; Limb stiffness makes flexion and extension hard to bear. With difficulty in urination and aversion to wind, Adding one piece of Fuzi to Guizhi Tang brings peace.
Nan Yuanxi notes: The interior organ associated with the Taiyang channel is Shaoyin. Taiyang disease is originally suitable for inducing sweating; if done excessively, causing continuous leakage, it is necessary to use Fuzi to secure and consolidate.
To prevent the loss of body fluids, fortunately, the True Yang within the Kidney has not yet perished.
Using only Fuzi to greatly tonify the Qi of Shaoyin, combined with Guizhi Tang as the specific medicine for the Taiyang channel, allows Yin to interact with Yang, stopping the leakage. Once leakage stops, fluids no longer escape externally.
Treats Taiyang disease where purgation was mistakenly used afterwards, resulting in a rapid pulse (Cu Mai) and chest fullness.
Use the original Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), removing Shaoyao (White Peony Root).
The above four ingredients are boiled with seven sheng of water until three sheng remain, and taken warm, one sheng at a time.
Guizhi Qu Shaoyao Jia Fuzi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction without White Peony plus Prepared Aconite Root) treats the same condition as above. If accompanied by slight aversion to cold:
Add Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) to the previous formula. (One piece, processed, skin removed, broken into eight pieces)
The above five ingredients are coarsely crushed, boiled with seven sheng of water until three sheng remain, strained, and taken warm, one sheng at a time. Stop subsequent doses once aversion to cold ceases.
The verse states: Why remove Shaoyao from Guizhi Tang? To urgently dispel Yin excess causing chest fullness. If aversion to cold appears, indicating weak Yang, Add one piece of Fuzi to complete the remedy.
Wei notes: The main principle of Shanghan Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage) is that life depends on obtaining Yang. The previous section discussed sweating leading to leakage, fearing the loss of Yang. This section discusses rapid pulse and chest fullness after purgation, also fearing that Yang Qi is trapped in the upper jiao causing fullness; the pulse is rapid but occasionally pauses, termed Cu Mai (Rapid Pulse). Treatment should urgently disperse Yin pathogens. Removing Shaoyao from Guizhi Tang avoids retaining Yin pathogens. If aversion to cold is seen, it indicates extreme Yang deficiency; merely suppressing Yin is useless. It is necessary to add Shu Fuzi (Processed Prepared Aconite Root) to strengthen Yang, which will be effective. The interpretations by Yu Jiayan and Cheng Fusheng are both incorrect.
