There are cases where carbuncles (sores) develop in the lower abdomen. These are absolutely not Yang-toxin syndromes, as this area belongs to Yin. A Yin-toxin syndrome arising in a Yin location appears extremely severe; however, if treated with the correct method using Yang-warming herbs, success can be achieved immediately. Regrettably, when people see sores on the abdomen, they often overuse Yin-cooling herbs to clear heat and detoxify, which instead causes the carbuncle to become incurable. This is truly pitiable! However, by "Yang herbs," I do not mean herbs that disperse fire and eliminate wind, but rather those that tonify Qi and warm the Fire. The formation of Yin-toxin in a Yin region is due to deficiency-cold. Cold stagnates because of deficiency, and toxin becomes trapped due to cold. Therefore, using hot-natured herbs to dispel cold naturally resolves the cold and disperses the toxin. The formula used is Quhan Jiufu Dan (Cold-Dispelling Abdomen-Saving Decoction) (Note: *Bianzheng Qiwun* and *Bianzheng Lu* change the name to Bihan Jiufu Dan, which is incorrect):
Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (3 liang), Honeysuckle Flower (3 liang), Poria (3 qian), Cinnamon Twig (3 qian), Aconite Lateralis Radix Praeparata (1 qian), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (5 qian), Cnidii Fructus (5 qian). Decoct in water and take orally (Note: *Bianzheng Qiwun* and *Bianzheng Lu* list Angelicae Sinensis Radix as 2 liang). One dose eliminates the carbuncle; if already ulcerated, three doses will drain pus and regenerate flesh; four doses lead to complete recovery. In this formula, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma serves as the Sovereign herb, specifically promoting the flow of Qi in the waist and umbilical region. When the Qi in the waist and umbilicus flows freely, the entire lower abdominal region benefits. It is assisted by Honeysuckle Flower and Cnidii Fructus to dispel toxic qi, making the toxin easier to dissipate. However, fearing that cooling herbs cannot penetrate directly to the site, Aconite Lateralis Radix Praeparata and Cinnamon Twig are added to break through barriers and reach the target. Since Cinnamon Twig, Aconite, Atractylodes, and Cnidius are all dry-natured substances, although the toxin is removed, there is a risk of consuming blood. Therefore, Angelicae Sinensis Radix is used to nourish Yin within Yang, slightly restraining their dryness. This ensures that while Yin-cold is scattered, there is no fear of excessive Yang flourishing, allowing efficacy without subsequent complications.

Decoct in water and take orally. One dose reduces it, two doses cure it. Adding Ginseng Radix enhances the effect.
