If treated as *Houfeng* (Wind-Throat, a severe throat condition), death will occur immediately. Use one white salt plum (burned to ash but retaining its medicinal properties), 1 qian of Calcined Alum (*Kufan*), and 1 qian of roasted Pangolin Scales (*Chuanshanjia*). Grind them together into a powder and insufflate it into the affected area.
Alternatively, use pig brain marrow, steam it until cooked, mix with vinegar, and consume.
For any throat ulcer that fails to heal for a long time, it is likely caused by consuming food outdoors where flying silk fibers have fallen into it, leading to sores in the throat. Urgently use alum and croton seeds, burn them to ash, and insufflate the powder into the lesion for immediate cure. Alternatively, the method of fumigating the nose with croton seed oil described below is also excellent.
This condition affects individuals with weak constitutions and excessive stagnation. The throat develops lesions resembling moss; the color is dark rather than bright red, there is no obstruction or swelling, breathing is normal, and there is only slight pain and itching that hinders eating. This is caused by deficient fire, which is lingering and difficult to cure. It contraindicates acupuncture and fears tonification. Take fresh dung from a first-calving yellow cow, place it on a new tile, cover it with another tile, and heat around the edges using mild and strong fire until the smoke ceases and the substance retains its medicinal nature. Remove it along with the tile, cover with a mortar, wait for it to cool, grind into powder, and slowly insufflate into the throat using a bamboo tube for spontaneous healing.
Another prescription: 1 fen of Borneol (*Bingpian*) and Real Musk (*Niuhuang*), 3 fen of Chalcanthite (*Danfan*), 2 qian of Velvet Bean Seed (*Shandougeng*), and 8 fen each of genuine Borax (*Penglsha*), Orpiment Essence (*Xiongjing*), and Catechu (*Ercha*). Grind all into a fine powder. Separately, take three pitted salt plums, mash them into a paste, mix with the medicine, and form pills the size of a longan fruit. Hold one pill in the mouth overnight before sleep for a cure. Holding up to ten pills can eradicate the root cause, with miraculous efficacy.
This condition recurs repeatedly after healing, without symptoms such as night fever, cough, or hemoptysis. The only symptoms are sore throat and redness, or ring-like structures resembling frog skin forming in the throat. Use two liang of autumn butterfly flower root (which is *Shenggan* / Belamcanda Rhizome). The stems and leaves of this flower are identical to those of the spring butterfly flower, but the spring variety has lotus-pink flowers, whereas the true authentic herb blooms with yellow flowers in autumn; do not mistake them. Wash clean, mash thoroughly, decoct with sweet wine, hold the juice in the mouth, gargle three to five times, then spit out. Repeat with fresh preparation to eradicate the root cause.
Decoct and drink leaves of *Chouju* (Stinking Orange); recovery occurs after several doses.
Another prescription: Wrap cotton around the head of a chopstick, dip it in table salt, and apply directly to the fleshy tissue. After five or six applications, the lesion will naturally subside. Then use 1.5 qian each of Platycodon Root (*Jiegeng*) and Coptis Rhizome (*Huanglian*), stir-fried Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange), Peucedanum Root (*Qianhu*), Forsythia Fruit (*Lianqiao*, heart removed), Tangerine Peel (*Chenpi*), Saposhnikovia Root (*Fangfeng*), Pinellia Tuber (*Banxia*), Bupleurum Root (*Chaihu*), Arisaema Rhizome (*Nanxing*), Aconite Lateral Root (*Baifuzi*), and fried and ground Arctium Seed (*Niubangzi*), along with Red Peony Root (*Chishao*)...
