Symptoms and treatment methods are all recorded in the section on Heatstroke (Zhongshu).
(This condition is occasionally caused by an invasion of Wind-Cold pathogenic factors, with milder symptoms compared to previous Shanghan (Cold Damage) conditions. It may also be treated according to the external therapy formulas for Shanghan mentioned earlier.)
Applying Qiaomai San (Buckwheat Powder; see Formula 1 in the Head section) externally is most effective. Alternatively, use brown sugar (red granulated sugar is also acceptable) added with old ginger and scallion bulbs to decoct a soup; or take a pinch of salt, burn it until charred over a knife edge, mix with one cup of Fenjiu (Fen Wine) or liquor, boil, and drink immediately for miraculous efficacy.
Another prescription: Crush walnuts with their shells, along with seven scallion bulbs with roots and three qian of Xihua Ye (Fine Flower Leaves), place them together in a large bowl, pour boiling water into it, first fumigate the head and face, then drink the entire contents. Cover with a blanket, sleep, and induce sweating for recovery. Adding fresh ginger to decoct and drink is also acceptable.
Another prescription: Stir-fry one he of black beans until scorched, flush with wine while hot until slightly intoxicated, cover with a blanket and lie down; sweating leads to recovery.
Orange leaves, old ginger, and scallion bulbs in any quantity, stir-fried hot with wine, wrapped in cloth, and frequently ironed over the affected area will cause the disease to vanish.
\xShortness and roughness, obstruction of upper and lower Guan Ge (Guan-Ge obstruction), whole body stiffness
Using the Earth Ironing Method (Tu Yi Fa; see External and Internal Backup Formulas) is the most excellent treatment. There is also a case of body chills and fever, limbs hard as stone, producing bell-like sounds when struck,
Formula
A patient contracted Wind-Cold externally but mistakenly took tonic medicines, causing the Wind pathogen to be trapped inside. The body was extremely weak, making it difficult to release the exterior through sweating. Later, more than one jin of soil from a bag containing Xixin (Asarum) from a large pharmacy was used. Water was decocted and first fumigated while hot. The whole body was surrounded by cloth to utilize the heat for fumigation, followed by washing. Recovery occurred through induced sweating. Avoiding wind during washing is crucial.
Melt wax and spread it on new paper (cloth is also acceptable), apply it to the affected area according to its size, and wrap/apply it to the palms of both hands and soles of both feet. Replace whenever it cools down; this is very effective. Or use
This condition is likely Ding Chuang (Ding Carbuncle). Its shape varies in size and can appear anywhere. It is urgent to search the entire body for identification. Particular attention should be paid to areas such as beard, hair, eyes, ears, nose, shoulders, axillae, nail folds of hands and feet, umbilicus, and anterior/posterior yin regions. If any trace is found, even if small as a millet grain, urgently consult Volume XI for various formulas treating Ding Carbuncle.
