When a mother faints and does not regain consciousness immediately after the birth of her child, medicines cannot be administered at this stage; delay will result in untreatable conditions. The emergency method is to tightly block the vaginal opening with very soft old clothing, having an experienced woman press against it with her knee to prevent the loss of Qi from below. Another person should hold the hair with one hand and cover the nose and mouth with the other to prevent the loss of Qi from above. Once the patient shows slight signs of recovery and respiration, warm water should be used to receive the vapor (to guide the Qi), followed by the urgent administration of Shenghua Decoction.
Emergency Shenghua Decoction for Ad Hoc Use: Treats three types of blood syncope, while also resolving stasis and generating new tissue. Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) 3 qian, Danggui Radix (Danggui) 6 or 8 qian (washed with wine), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang) [decocted in water].
Emergency Ginseng-Added Shenghua Decoction for Ad Hoc Use: Treats postpartum syncope characterized by pallor and collapse due to Qi and Blood depletion. Renshen Radix (Renshen) 3 qian, Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) 2 qian, Danggui Radix (Danggui) 4 qian (washed with wine), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang) [decocted in water].
Ginseng-Added Shenghua Decoction (with Da Bu Hui Yang Shenghua Decoction): Renshen Radix (Renshen) 2 qian, Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) 4 qian, Danggui Radix (Danggui) 8 qian (washed with wine), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang) 4 fen [decocted in water]. At night, continue administering the original Shenghua Decoction. In cases of collapse, Jue syndrome (cold extremities), and excessive sweating, add Renshen Radix (Renshen) 3–4 qian. If both pulse and physical form are depleted and nearing extinction, this formula must be administered frequently. If Jue syndrome is accompanied by sweating, add Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong) with heart removed, 1 qian. If sweating is profuse and thirst is severe, add Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong) with heart removed, 3 qian; if sweating is profuse with phlegm and wheezing, add Arisaematis Cum Bile (Zhuli), Zingiberis Succus (Jiangzhi), and Prunus Armeniaca Semen (Xingren) with skin and tip removed, 10 grains. If sweating is profuse with wheezing, cough, and heavy voice, add Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng) and Prunus Armeniaca Semen (Xingren) with skin and tip removed, each 5 fen. If there is no sweating, with wheezing, cough, and shortness of breath, add Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum (Banxia) 1 qian, Prunus Armeniaca Semen (Xingren) with skin and tip removed, 10 grains, and Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng) 5 fen. If sweating is profuse with body heat and shortness of breath, add Renshen Radix (Renshen); if the left Chi pulse is weak, also add Renshen Radix (Renshen). If sweating does not cease, after 3–4 doses, add Astragali Radix Huangqi (Honey-fried) 1 qian. An alternative prescription reduces the dosage of Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) and Danggui Radix (Danggui) by half, named Da Bu Hui Yang Shenghua Decoction. It treats postpartum Jue syndrome; using dates as a guide, quick decoction and two doses yield immediate effect. If Jue syndrome is accompanied by thirst, supplement with Sheng Mai Wu Wei Yin to replace tea, to restore body fluids, thereby reducing thirst and reversing Jue syndrome.
Sheng Mai Wu Wei Yin (removing Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) yields Can Mai Yin, also known as Sheng Mai Tang or Sheng Mai San): Renshen Radix (Renshen) 2 qian (another prescription uses 3 qian), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong) [decocted in water].
Zi Rong Yi Qi Tang: Treats Jue syndrome persisting after the cessation of pain caused by blood masses. Renshen Radix (Renshen) and Danggui Radix (Danggui) each 3 qian, Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu) (stir-fried with earth), and Astragali Radix (Huangqi) (honey-fried) each 1.5 qian or 1 qian, Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shudihuang) 2 qian, Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong) with heart removed 0.8 qian or 1 qian, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata (Zhigancao) 4 fen, Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) 10 grains, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Chuanfuzi) 5 qian [decocted in water].
