The hairy caterpillar, commonly known as Yang Lazai (Poplar Stinger), also called She Gong (Shooting Worker), can spray its hairs to sting people. Initially, it causes itching, followed by pain that feels like burning fire. If prolonged, it results in external itching and internal pain, eventually rotting the flesh and bones, rendering various medicines ineffective. Use fermented soybeans (Douchi) mashed into a paste, mixed with clarified oil, and applied to the affected area. After a short while, the hairs will emerge. Remove the Douchi, then wash the area with a decoction of Angelica dahurica (Baizhi). If the flesh has already rotted, sprinkle powder from cuttlebone (Haipiaoxiao) onto the wound, which will lead to recovery.
Another prescription: First wash the area with water, then immediately apply mashed Purslane (Machixian) to the site. One or two applications are sufficient for recovery. Alternatively, applying cooked honey is also effective.
For cases where itching leads to skin breakdown and ulceration, squeeze the juice from Green Fruit (Qingguo, i.e., Olive) and apply it several times until healed. Or, treat according to any of the aforementioned prescriptions for hairy caterpillar injuries for even better results.
In cases of spider bites where the abdomen swells like a drum (distension) and threads appear all over the body, drinking white goat milk for several days leads to recovery.
Another prescription: Take one bowl of Indigofera tinctoria (Lan Dian) juice, add a small amount of Realgar (Xionghuang) and Musk (Shexiang), apply this mixture to the affected area, and drink the juice. The effect is miraculous. One person was bitten, suffering from severe swelling and pain in the head and face, nearly dying; after taking this remedy, they recovered. Spiders dissolve into water when placed in Indigo juice, hence its extraordinary efficacy.
Another prescription: Rub the entire body with sheep liver; this is extremely effective.
Another prescription: Drink good wine until drunk, causing the small worms in the flesh to naturally exit, leading to recovery.
Another prescription: Wash the area with hot sweet wine to reduce swelling. Or, treat according to the previous prescription for centipede bites.
This creature resembles a spider but is larger. It is also known as Bi Qian (Wall Money), Bi Jing (Wall Mirror), or Xi Zi (Happy Child). It often spins a white web nest, the size of a coin, sticking to walls. Its bite is highly toxic; without treatment, death is inevitable. Burn mulberry branches until charred, boil them to make a concentrated decoction, mix in Alum (Bai Fan) powder, and apply to the affected area. This is extremely effective.
Another prescription: Apply Ground Cover Plant (Dujin) found under flower pots, or mash aged vinegar and apply it. Recovery follows quickly.
Another prescription: Heat a knife until red-hot, place Alum on it. When the Alum melts and drips, apply the hot liquid to the wound immediately. It heals instantly with divine efficacy. Or, treat according to the previous prescription for centipede bites.
One type is called Yao (Yao), also said to be Sao Jiazi. It hides in wall crevices and sprays urine at people. If poisoned by it, blisters (large fluid-filled vesicles) appear on the skin, and the pain feels like being branded by fire. Initially, the lesions are the size of rice grains, later growing to the size of beans. If not treated early, and if the surrounding injured areas merge together, rescue becomes difficult. Urgently soak cotton in hot salt water and apply it; repeated applications cause the swelling to subside. In severe cases, the toxin spreads throughout the body, causing incessant itching. Apply Er Wei Ba Du San (Two-Ingredient Antitoxic Powder, see section on Carbuncles and Toxins) to the affected area for miraculous effects. Or use Da...
