Treating edema caused by water qi. Take 8 liang of Adzuki Bean (Vigna angularis), 3 heads of Garlic (Allium sativum), 5 qian of Fresh Ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and 1 liang of Phytolaccae Radix (Shanglu). Decoct the above ingredients together in 3 large bowls of water. Wait until the beans are thoroughly cooked, then remove the ginger, garlic, and Phytolaccae Radix. Mix the beans with the decoction and consume them on an empty stomach. After finishing, the swelling will naturally subside; this is a miraculous remedy.
Another prescription: Dry-roast the Mole Cricket (Tougou) until dry and grind into powder, 1 qian; Powder of Kansui Root (Gansui), 1 qian; Juice extracted from Phytolaccae Radix, one tablespoonful. Mix these three ingredients evenly. Take orally before meals with plain boiled water. Effect is seen when urination becomes unobstructed. Avoid salt for 100 days.
Treating edema due to water qi. Take 2 River Snails (Tianluo), 1 peeled Garlic clove, and 2 qian of Mustard Seed (Jielazi). Pound the above three ingredients together until uniform. Apply externally over a cloth to the area one cun above the umbilicus. After one week, water dampness will drain out through urination.
Another prescription: For treating edema, take 1 large Crucian Carp (Daji Yu), remove internal organs but keep the scales. Stuff the fish belly with 2 liang of Phytolaccae Radix and 2 liang of Adzuki Bean. Tie securely and boil in water until extremely soft. Remove the fish and Phytolaccae Radix. Consume the beans and drink the broth. Within no more than three doses, the swelling will naturally disappear.
Another prescription: Winter Melon (Donggua) quantity is not fixed; cook and eat frequently as desired. Alternatively, extract and drink the juice.
Another prescription: Stir-fried Coix Seed (Yiyiren) until yellow, ground into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, delivered with salt water. These are all excellent methods for eliminating edema.
Another prescription: Black Morning Glory Seed (Heiqiu), 6 qian; Costus Root (Muxiang), Betel Nut (Binglang), and Turmeric (Jianghuang), each 3 qian. Grind all into fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, delivered with wine on an empty stomach.
Seven Mole Crickets (Tougouzi), dry-roasted, heads and feet removed, ground into powder. Take with distilled liquor. Water dampness exits via urination; complete resolution occurs after three doses. Utilizing Yang agents for Yin syndromes, and Yin agents for Yang syndromes, yields even better results.
