仁、茅根、生地黄。已退场门鼻出血者。用加减犀角地黄茅花汤（见五十八条）。除甘草。有用古
方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条）。加童便、炒栀仁者。收后口鼻出血者。用犀角解毒汤（见五十八
条）。除赤芍。加茅根、当归尾、百草霜。
咽喉痛证治 初热咽痛老。用败毒散（见骨髓赋内）。除柴胡、赤芍、桔梗、甘草。加射干、麦
冬、山豆根、防风。已出咽痛者。用败毒散（见骨髓赋内）。除柴胡、赤芍，桔梗、甘草。加射于、栀
仁、山豆根。收后咽痛者。用败毒散（见骨髓赋内）。除柴胡、赤芍、甘草、桔梗。加射干、栀仁、山
豆根、黄连。
腹痛证治 初潮腹痛者。用宣毒发表汤（见第五条）。除升麻、桔梗、甘草。已出腹痛者。用
清热透肌汤（见十六条）。除甘草。加枳壳。收后腹痛者。用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条）。加
枳壳、山楂肉、元参。
声音喑哑证治 凡声音哑喑者。用清金降火汤（见五十三条）。除白芍、陈皮、甘草、桔梗。加
石菖蒲。有用诃子肉、磨水服者。
夹丹证治 夹丹者。用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条）。加连翘、牛蒡子、当归尾、生地黄、丹
皮、元参。有用河间凉膈散（见二十六条）。去芒硝、甘草。加生地黄，当归者。
夹斑证治 夹斑者。用犀角红花饮（见四十八条）。加黄连、紫草、大青。
夹痢证治 初潮夹痢者。用葛根解肌汤（见第五条）。除赤芍药、甘草、蝉蜕。加防风、枳实。
已出夹痢者。用清热导滞汤（见七十二条）。除白芍、楂肉、浓朴、甘草。收后成痢者。用清热导
滞汤（见七十二条）。除白芍、甘草。又有前后俱用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条）。加枳壳、白
芍。或三苓散（见三十七条）。加酒炒黄连、黄芩、木通、白芍者。在初潮不宜用大凉之剂。收后。三
苓散分利。似乎无济。且白芍始终俱宜酌用。此法不大妥当。（初潮何以不宜用大凉之剂。因初

牙疳证治 凡遇牙疳证。用加味清胃散（见六十二条）。
麻疯疮证治 用解毒汤（见一百另七条）。有用大连翘饮（见十八条）。加金银花者。
初起、出疹期及收疹期的证候已确立条目，治疗方剂也已制定。不敢使用过于峻烈的热药或霸道之品，随时根据病情解毒，这样就不会有妨碍。
初潮（麻疹初期）的证治：
初起出现潮热的，使用宣毒发表汤（见第五条）。去掉升麻、桔梗、甘草，加入紫苏叶、葱白。
出疹期间出现潮热的，使用葛根疏邪汤（见三十三条），加入黄芩；或者使用清热透肌汤（见二十五条），去掉甘草，加入黄芩、地骨皮。

收疹期出现潮热的，使用生地骨皮汤（见三十条），去掉甘草，加入黄连、枳壳；或者使用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条），加入地骨皮、连翘、牛蒡子、当归。
烦热证的证治：
初潮时出现烦热，在皮疹未发出之前感到烦躁的，使用防风败毒散（见第五条）。去掉桔梗、甘草，加入麦冬、黄芩、葛根。
出疹期间感到烦躁的，使用白虎解毒汤（见二十六条），加入地骨皮、黄柏、连翘。
收疹期感到烦躁的，使用白虎解毒汤（见二十六条），加入地骨皮、黄柏、牛蒡子、枳壳、木通。
谵语（说胡话）证的证治：
初潮时出现谵语的，使用宣毒发表汤（见第五条）。去掉升麻、桔梗、甘草，加入肉桂、附子、滑石粉、辰砂末。
出疹之后出现谵语的，使用加味导赤散（见四十九条），调入辰砂、滑石粉；或者使用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条），调入辰砂、滑石粉。
收疹之后出现谵语的，这实属凶险征兆，使用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条）合上加味导赤散（见四十九条），调入辰砂、滑石粉。
咳嗽证的证治：
初潮时出现咳嗽，这属于顺症（美候），使用宣咳发表汤（见第五条）。去掉升麻、桔梗、甘草，加入桑白皮。如果潮热较轻的，一并去掉淡竹叶。
出疹期间出现咳嗽，也属于顺症，使用聂氏清肺饮（见五十条）。去掉陈皮、柴胡、桔梗、甘草、贝母，加入枳壳、连翘、牛蒡子；或者使用除热清肺汤（见五十条），去掉甘草、赤芍，加入枳壳、连翘、牛蒡子；或者使用加味泻白散（见五十一条），去掉甘草、人参，加入枳壳、连翘、牛蒡子。
收疹后出现咳嗽的，使用秘本门冬清肺汤（见五十条）。去掉甘草、桔梗、糯米。如果不伴有口渴症状的，一并去掉石膏。
泄泻证的证治：
初潮时出现泄泻，这属于顺症，使用宣毒发表汤（见第五条）。去掉枳壳、薄荷叶、淡竹叶、升麻、桔梗、甘草，加入赤茯苓、车前子。
出疹期间出现泄泻的，使用猪苓汤（见六十三条），去掉甘草；也有使用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条）合上三苓散（见三十七条）的情况。

收疹后出现呕吐的，使用石斛清胃散（见五十九条）。去掉丹皮、赤芍、甘草，加入竹茹、枇杷叶、柿蒂。
大便不通证的证治：
初潮时大便闭塞的，使用前胡枳壳散（见五十一条）。去掉大黄、甘草，加入牵牛子、连翘、牛蒡子、防风、葛根。
出疹期间大便闭塞的，使用当归润肠汤（见六十八条通幽汤方尾）。去掉升麻、牛膝、熟甘草、熟地黄，加入连翘、牛蒡子。

出疹期间大便出血的，使用凉血地黄汤（见四十五条），去掉甘草，加入连翘、牛蒡子、犀角。也有使用犀角解毒汤（见五十八条），去掉赤芍，加入玄参的。
收疹后大便出血的，使用犀角解毒汤（见五十八条），去掉赤芍，加入连翘、牛蒡子、炒蒲黄。有的再加桃仁。（这是想要去除积血的意思。我认为使用生蒲黄和熟蒲黄来祛瘀生新，更为妥当。）
小便赤涩证的证治：
初潮时小便颜色红的，使用宣毒发表汤（见第五条）。去掉升麻、桔梗、甘草，加入泽泻。
出疹期间小便颜色红的，使用加味导赤散（见四十九条）。也有使用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条）加入木通的。
收疹后小便红如米泔水般浑浊的，使用加味三苓散（见十一条）。
口鼻出血证的证治：

合并丹毒的，使用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条），加入连翘、牛蒡子、当归尾、生地黄、牡丹皮、玄参。也有使用河间凉膈散（见二十六条），去掉芒硝、甘草，加入生地黄、当归的。
夹斑（合并斑疹）证的证治：
合并斑疹的，使用犀角红花饮（见四十八条），加入黄连、紫草、大青。
夹痢（合并痢疾）证的证治：
初潮时合并痢疾的，使用葛根解肌汤（见第五条）。去掉赤芍药、甘草、蝉蜕，加入防风、枳实。
出疹期间合并痢疾的，使用清热导滞汤（见七十二条），去掉白芍、山楂肉、厚朴、甘草。
收疹后形成痢疾的，使用清热导滞汤（见七十二条），去掉白芍、甘草。也有前后阶段都使用古方黄连解毒汤（见三十五条），加入枳壳、白芍的；或者使用三苓散（见三十七条），加入酒炒黄连、黄芩、木通、白芍的。在初潮阶段不宜使用过于寒凉的药剂。因为初潮之时，毒邪正向外发散，一旦使用大寒之剂，会遏制抑制毒势，导致麻疹发不出来，致使丧命的情况比比皆是。这句话可以作为治疗的准则。（注：原文此处对“收后三苓散分利似乎无济”及“白芍始终俱宜酌用”的评价认为此法不大妥当，并解释了初潮忌大凉的原因。）
The syndromes at the initial, eruptive, and convalescent stages have been categorized with specific treatment principles and formulas. One must not use overly acrid-hot or overpowering drugs; instead, detoxification should be applied according to the timing, which will cause no harm.
Treatment of Fever during the Initial Stage (Chao Re):
For fever appearing at the onset, use Xuan Du Fa Biao Tang (Dispel Toxins and Release the Exterior Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Zisu Ye (Perillae Folium) and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus).
For fever during the eruptive stage, use Gegen Shu Xie Tang (Puerariae Radix Dispersing Pathogenic Factors Decoction) (see Article 33), adding Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix); or use Qing Re Tou Ji Tang (Clearing Heat and Penetrating the Muscle Decoction) (see Article 25), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and adding Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Gudupi (Lycii Cortex).
For chills and fever alternating like malaria, use Fangfeng Bai Du San (Saposhnikoviae Powder for Resolving Toxins) (see Article 5). Remove Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Qianhu (Peucedani Radix) and Chi Fuling (Polyporus with Red Mycelium).
For fever during the convalescent stage, use Shengdi Gudupi Tang (Rehmanniae Radix and Lycii Cortex Decoction) (see Article 30), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and adding Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Zhike (Aurantii Fructus); or use the ancient formula Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35), adding Gudupi (Lycii Cortex), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix).
Treatment of Irritability and Heat:
For irritability and heat during the initial stage, specifically restlessness before eruption, use Fangfeng Bai Du San (Saposhnikoviae Powder for Resolving Toxins) (see Article 5). Remove Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Gegen (Puerariae Radix).
For restlessness during the eruptive stage, use Baihu Jie Du Tang (White Tiger Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 26), adding Gudupi (Lycii Cortex), Huangbo (Phellodendri Cortex), and Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus).
For restlessness during the convalescent stage, use Baihu Jie Du Tang (White Tiger Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 26), adding Gudupi (Lycii Cortex), Huangbo (Phellodendri Cortex), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), and Mutong (Akebiae Caulis).
Treatment of Delirious Speech (Chan Yu):
For delirious speech during the initial stage, use Xuan Du Fa Biao Tang (Dispel Toxins and Release the Exterior Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Rougui (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Huashi (Talcum), and Chen Sha Mo (Cinnabaris Pulvis).
For delirious speech after eruption, use Jiawei Dao Chi San (Modified Guide Out the Emotion Powder) (see Article 49), mixed with Chen Sha (Cinnabaris) and Huashi (Talcum); or use the ancient formula Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35), mixed with Chen Sha (Cinnabaris) and Huashi (Talcum).
For delirious speech after convalescence, this is a ominous sign. Use Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35) combined with Jiawei Dao Chi San (Modified Guide Out the Emotion Powder) (see Article 49), mixed with Chen Sha (Cinnabaris) and Huashi (Talcum).
Treatment of Cough:
Cough during the initial stage is considered a favorable symptom (Mei Hou). Use Xuan Ke Fa Biao Tang (Dispel Cough and Release the Exterior Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex). If fever is mild, also remove Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba).
Cough during the eruptive stage is also a favorable symptom. Use Nie Shi Qing Fei Yin (Dr. Nie’s Lung-Clearing Infusion) (see Article 50). Remove Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus); add Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), and Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus); or use Chu Re Qing Fei Tang (Clearing Heat and Clearing the Lung Decoction) (see Article 50), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), adding Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), and Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus); or use Jiawei Xie Bai San (Modified Draining White Powder) (see Article 51), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Renshen (Ginseng Radix), adding Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), and Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus).
For cough after convalescence, use Miben Mendong Qing Fei Tang (Secret Manual Ophiopogon Lung-Clearing Decoction) (see Article 50). Remove Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Nuomai (Oryzae Fructus Germinatus). If there is no thirst, also remove Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum).
Treatment of Diarrhea:
Diarrhea during the initial stage is a favorable symptom. Use Xuan Du Fa Biao Tang (Dispel Toxins and Release the Exterior Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Bohe Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Chi Fuling (Polyporus with Red Mycelium) and Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen).
For diarrhea during the eruptive stage, use Zhuling Tang (Polyporus Decoction) (see Article 63), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); some use Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35) combined with San Ling San (Three Poria Powder) (see Article 37).
For fever and diarrhea after convalescence, use Jiawei Dao Chi San (Modified Guide Out the Emotion Powder) (see Article 49).
Treatment of Vomiting:
For vomiting during the initial stage, use Zhuru Tang (Bambusae Mesocarp Decoction) (see Article 59). Remove Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus); add Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Qianhu (Peucedani Radix), Gegen (Puerariae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), and Pipaye (Loquat Leaf).
For vomiting during the eruptive stage, use Zhuru Tang (Bambusae Mesocarp Decoction) (see Article 59). Remove Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus); add Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) and Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus).
For vomiting after convalescence, use Shihu Qing Wei San (Dendrobium Stomach-Clearing Powder) (see Article 59). Remove Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Zhuru (Bambusae Mesocarp), Pipaye (Loquat Leaf), and Shidi (Diospyri Calyx).
Treatment of Constipation:
For constipation during the initial stage, use Qianhu Zhike San (Peucedani and Aurantii Fructus Powder) (see Article 51). Remove Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Qiuniu (Semini Phaseoli Torrei), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), and Gegen (Puerariae Radix).
For constipation during the eruptive stage, use Danggui Run Chang Tang (Angelica Intestine-Moistening Decoction) (see Article 68, end of Tongyou Tang formula). Remove Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Nixi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Shu Gancao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Shu Dihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix); add Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) and Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus).
For constipation after convalescence, use Hejian Liang Ge San (He Jian’s Cooling Chest Powder) (see Article 26), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Treatment of Urinary Retention:
For urinary retention during the initial stage, use San Ling San (Three Poria Powder) (see Article 37), adding Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gegen (Puerariae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), and Zhike (Aurantii Fructus).
For urinary retention during the eruptive stage, use Dao Chi San (Guide Out the Emotion Powder) (see Article 26), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
For urinary retention after convalescence, use Tong Guan San (Opening the Passages Powder) (see Article 70), removing Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma).
Treatment of Hematochezia (Blood in Stool):
For hematochezia during the initial stage, use Xuan Du Fa Biao Tang (Dispel Toxins and Release the Exterior Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix); add Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) and Danpi (Moutan Cortex). In severe cases, add Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu). Some use Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) (see Article 58), removing Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), adding Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), and Gegen (Puerariae Radix).
For hematochezia during the eruptive stage, use Liangxue Dihuang Tang (Cooling Blood and Rehmannia Decoction) (see Article 45), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), adding Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), and Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu). Some use Xijiao Jie Du Tang (Rhinoceros Horn Detoxification Decoction) (see Article 58), removing Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), adding Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix).
For hematochezia after convalescence, use Xijiao Jie Du Tang (Rhinoceros Horn Detoxification Decoction) (see Article 58), removing Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), adding Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), and Chao Puhuang (Fried Sporis Lycopodii). Some add Taoren (Persicae Semen). (This is intended to remove accumulated blood. I believe using raw and cooked Puhuang to remove stasis and generate new blood is more appropriate.)
Treatment of Red and Scanty Urination:
For red urine during the initial stage, use Xuan Du Fa Biao Tang (Dispel Toxins and Release the Exterior Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma).
For red urine during the eruptive stage, use Jiawei Dao Chi San (Modified Guide Out the Emotion Powder) (see Article 49). Some use Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35) with added Mutong (Akebiae Caulis).
For urine as turbid as rice water after convalescence, use Jiawei San Ling San (Modified Three Poria Powder) (see Article 11).
Treatment of Epistaxis and Oral Bleeding:
For bleeding from mouth and nose during the initial stage, use Xuan Du Fa Biao Tang (Dispel Toxins and Release the Exterior Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Chao Zhiren (Fried Gardenia Seed), Maogen (Imperatae Rhizoma), and Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix).
For bleeding from mouth and nose after the rash has retreated, use Jiajian Xijiao Dihuang Maohua Tang (Modified Rhinoceros Horn, Rehmannia, and Magnolia Flower Decoction) (see Article 58), removing Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Some use Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35) with added Tongbian (Child’s Urine) and Chao Zhiren (Fried Gardenia Seed).
For bleeding from mouth and nose after convalescence, use Xijiao Jie Du Tang (Rhinoceros Horn Detoxification Decoction) (see Article 58), removing Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), adding Maogen (Imperatae Rhizoma), Dangguiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Tail), and Baicaoshuang (Carbonized Herb Ash).
Treatment of Sore Throat:
For sore throat during the initial heat stage, use Bai Du San (Resolving Toxins Powder) (see inside *Gu Su Fu*). Remove Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); add Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber), Shandougen (Sophorae Tonkinensis Radix), and Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix).

For abdominal pain after convalescence, use Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35), adding Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Shanrourou (Crataegi Fructus Flesh), and Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix).
Treatment of Hoarseness:
For hoarseness or aphonia, use Qing Jin Jiang Huo Tang (Clearing Metal and Descending Fire Decoction) (see Article 53). Remove Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix); add Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma). Some use Hezirou (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus Flesh) ground in water for administration.
Treatment of Complicated Erysipelas (Jia Dan):
For complicated erysipelas, use Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35), adding Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Dangguiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix Tail), Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), and Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix). Some use Hejian Liang Ge San (He Jian’s Cooling Chest Powder) (see Article 26), removing Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), adding Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix).
Treatment of Complicated Macules (Jia Ban):
For complicated macules, use Xijiao Honghua Yin (Rhinoceros Horn and Safflower Infusion) (see Article 48), adding Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zicao (Arnebiae Radix seu Rhizoma), and Daqing (Isatidis Folium).
Treatment of Complicated Dysentery (Jia Li):
For dysentery complicating the initial stage, use Gegen Jie Ji Tang (Pueraria Relieving Muscle Decoction) (see Article 5). Remove Chishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum); add Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) and Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus).
For dysentery complicating the eruptive stage, use Qing Re Dao Zhi Tang (Clearing Heat and Guiding Out Obstruction Decoction) (see Article 72), removing Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shanrou (Crataegi Fructus Flesh), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
For dysentery forming after convalescence, use Qing Re Dao Zhi Tang (Clearing Heat and Guiding Out Obstruction Decoction) (see Article 72), removing Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Some use Huanglian Jie Du Tang (Coptidis Decoction for Detoxification) (see Article 35) throughout both stages, adding Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba); or use San Ling San (Three Poria Powder) (see Article 37), adding Jiu Chao Huanglian (Wine-fried Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba). During the initial stage, one should not use strongly cold agents. Because during the initial stage, toxins are moving outward; if strongly cold agents are used, they will suppress the toxin’s movement, preventing measles from erupting, leading to death, which happens frequently. This sentence serves as a golden rule for treatment. (Note: The author considers the method of using San Ling San for separation and draining after convalescence as seemingly ineffective, and believes that Baishao should always be used cautiously. Thus, this method is not entirely appropriate.)
Treatment of Gum Rot (Ya Gan):
For gum rot, use Jiawei Qing Wei San (Modified Stomach-Clearing Powder) (see Article 62).
Treatment of Measles Leprosy Sores (Ma Feng Chuang):
Use Jie Du Tang (Detoxification Decoction) (see Article 107). Some use Da Lianqiao Yin (Large Forsythia Infusion) (see Article 18), adding Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos).
