When the thigh (Bi) cannot be lifted, needle from the lateral side at Shu He Zhong (Center of the Pivot Joint), using a Yuan Li Needle (Needle with rounded tip and sharp point); do not use a Da Zhen (Large Needle). (The Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian passes through the pivot of the thigh, which is called Shu He. Ping An: The *Ling Shu* and *Jia Yi Jing* add the character "Foot" before "Bi". "Shu He" is written as "Shu He" [Pivot Closure] in the *Jia Yi Jing*. Regarding "Da Zhen Bu Ke", the *Ling Shu* text reads "Da Zhen Bu Ke Ci" [Do not pierce with Large Needle].)
Ping An: This chapter is found in Volume 5, Chapter 26 "Za Bing" (Miscellaneous Diseases) of the *Ling Shu*, and the *Jia Yi Jing* cites it in the same volume.
For pain in the middle of the knee, select Du Bi (ST32), use a Yuan Li Needle, puncture and then wait between interventions; the needle should be as fine as a hair, and there are no contraindications for needling the knee. (Du Bi is where the Qi of the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian emerges, thus it is selected for knee pain. Ping An: The character "Zhen" [needle/puncture] is not repeated in the *Ling Shu*.)

In cases of Wei Jue (Atrophy-Coldness Syndrome) where the limbs feel bound or constricted, promptly release the constraint, perform this twice daily. For those with Ren (Numbness/Loss of Sensation), improvement will be seen within ten days; do not rest, stop only when the disease is cured. ("Si Shu" refers to the four limbs feeling as if bound. "Fan" means vexation/discomfort. Ping An: "Wei Si Shu" in the *Ling Shu* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Zuo Wei Si Mo Shu" [As if binding the four extremities]. The *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Fan" as "Men" [Stifled/Depressed].)

For Long Zheng (Strangury/Dysuria), select Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Motility Vessel) and the area above the pubic hair (San Mao), and bleed the blood vessels. ("Long" refers to strangury. Yin Qiao Mai ascends along the medial aspect of the thigh into the yin region, therefore points governed by Yin Qiao Mai are selected for its related diseases. The Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian originates above the cluster of hair on the big toe, enters the hair region surrounding the genitalia; therefore, select the Shu points governed by Yin Qiao Mai, and also select the San Mao area of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian, and bleed the Luo-connecting vessels of these two meridians to remove blood stasis. Ping An: "Long" in the *Ling Shu* is written as "Long" [Urethral Obstruction], and in the *Jia Yi Jing* as "Long" [Strangury].) If suffering from Xie (Diarrhea) with Xia Xue (Lower Bleeding), select Qu Quan (LR8). (Qu Quan is the He-Sea point where the Qi of the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian enters. Ping An: "Xie" in the *Ling Shu* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Zhu" [Pouring/Profuse Diarrhea].)
