Coldness at the tips of the five fingers indicates *Jing Feng* (Convulsions), a condition that is difficult to stabilize. If the middle finger is hot, it must be *Shang Han* (Cold Damage).
If only the middle finger is cold, it is transmitted as a sign of *Ma Dou* (Measles and Smallpox) syndromes. For females, examine the right hand; for males, the left hand. Observe clearly and carefully.
When initially appearing, the pattern on the Wind Gate (first phalanx of the index finger) is shallow; if the pattern invades the Qi Gate (second phalanx), the disease deepens. If branches appear, it is ultimately untreatable; if it reaches the Life Gate (third phalanx), it is extremely difficult to withstand.
The color of the vascular pattern changes from yellow to red when excessive, from red to purple when excessive, from purple to green/cyan when excessive, and from green/cyan to black. Pure black indicates a condition that is difficult to treat.
Yellow without specific shape is the Pulse of Peace and Health. Red without specific shape is also a pulse of tranquility. Only those with the aforementioned shapes are pathological pulses. Changing in sequence, starting as a single dot, mostly red in the Qi level; when the pulse reaches the Wind Gate, the condition is critical. If pure black is distinct, it is incurable.
A red linear pattern on the left hand indicates fever accompanied by *Jing* (Fright/Convulsion). Double patterns on the right hand resembling the left indicate simultaneous Spleen injury and Fright accumulation. A pattern head resembling a trident suggests Lung Qi generating phlegm, causing nocturnal sounds. Green and red colors should be diagnosed as *Shang Han* syndrome; however, empty redness indicates impending diarrhea.
Another verse:
Many chaotic patterns on the Tiger's Mouth indicate disharmony of Qi. Green color indicates Fright and accumulation; how to manage milk-induced diarrhea?
Green indicates the onset of Slow *Jing Feng*; entering the palm indicates many cases of *Diao Jin* (Tendon Drawing) Fright. If the Three Gates suddenly connect, this sign indicates a severe, chronic illness.
Identifying green patterns on the finger recognizes it as Fright from four-legged animals. Green color on the Tiger's Mouth pulse indicates Fright from pigs, dogs, or horses.
Black color is due to water shock (drowning/water pathogen); red color is due to Fire person (Fire pathogen/heat toxin) Fright; purple color often leads to diarrhea; yellow color is Thunder Fright (fright from lightning). Curved extension indicates prevailing Wind; arched posture indicates steaming from food retention. Only by observing the intersection points can one distinguish the shape.
For children over three years old with severe and critical illness, the fingernails, mouth, and nose often turn black. This is because the child's pulse is exhausted and spirit is困 (depressed). The symptoms are extremely malignant; even with good medicine, life absolutely cannot be preserved.
Verse on Forehead, Yintang, and Shangen:
Forehead redness indicates great heat and dryness; greenness indicates Liver Wind. Appearance of greenness at Yintang indicates human fright; fire makes it red.
Shangen (root of the nose) shows hidden greenness, indicating double layers of fright. If redness appears there, diarrhea and dryness will definitely attack each other.
