Coughing accompanied by chirping sounds like a chick, excessive phlegm, hemoptysis (blood in sputum), and stranguria (painful urination); one dose of Shengma Tang (Cimicifugae Decoction) will ensure peace and tranquility.
There are six types of heart and abdominal pain: cold pain, heat pain, food stagnation pain, accumulation pain, worm pain, and pain caused by cholera-like disorder (Huoluan).
When children are externally affected by wind-cold and internally injured by cold foods, causing stomach qi to obstruct below the heart leading to pain, crying out or even fainting, cold hands and feet, vomiting or not vomiting, and relief upon massage with warm hands, Caodoukou Wan (Grain-of-Paradise Pill) is the primary treatment.
When children are affected by cold, resulting in continuous abdominal pain, restless crying, cold hands and feet, sweating, diarrhea or no diarrhea, with slight relief upon warming, Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) is the primary treatment.
When children suffer from abdominal pain that occurs at irregular intervals, this is pain due to accumulation. Frequent purging should be avoided as it damages qi and makes recovery difficult; Jisheng Wan (Accumulation-Suppressing Pill) is used for regulation.
When children experience sudden abdominal pain after eating, this is injury from food stagnation. One must ask if they have had this condition before. If not, treat it as food stagnation: use Dingxiang Pi Ji Wan (Clove Spleen-Accumulation Pill) to eliminate the stagnant food, administering the medicine with a decoction made from the originally consumed food item. Subsequently, regulate with Jisheng Wan. If the condition existed previously, it should be treated as an accumulation disorder.
When children experience heart and abdominal pain, epigastric discomfort (zaocao), spitting clear saliva, sallow complexion, emaciation, relief after eating, and recurrence of discomfort and pain when hungry, this is worm pain. First, administer Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxifying Pill), swallowed with a decoction of Cortex Ailanthi Radicis Albi (Bark of the Root of Ailanthus), to expel the parasites, then regulate with Jisheng Wan. For those with weak yuan qi (vital energy), purgatives should not be used; only Jisheng Wan should be administered as the main treatment.
When children are fine during the day but cry at night, this is abdominal pain. The abdomen belongs to yin, and pain indicates cold; occurrence at night signifies excess yin-cold. Administer Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill), taken with a decoction prepared from the ash of burned Dengxin Cao (Juncus Effusus Stem).
