The "Head and Face Wind" mentioned in medical texts refers to Xuan Yun (Vertigo/Dizziness). However, since Xuan Yun involves the Three Causes (Internal, External, and Non-internal/External), it cannot be solely attributed to Head and Face Wind. For instance, wind, cold, summer-heat, and dampness invading the Taiyang, Yangming, and Shaoyang meridians can all cause vertigo, with a heavy head and stiff neck. If caused by Wind, there is sweating; if by Cold, there is pulling pain; if by Summer-heat, there is heat and stifling sensation; if by Dampness, there is heaviness and sticking, accompanied by vomiting, regurgitation, and falling due to dizziness. This belongs to the External Cause. Emotional factors such as anger, joy, worry, and overthinking cause Zang-Fu Qi mechanism stagnation, leading to depression and generation of phlegm-saliva. This phlegm condenses into fluid retention, rises with Qi, and lingers in the Yang meridians, causing vertigo, vomiting, pain in the eyebrows and eyes, and inability to open the eyes. This belongs to the Internal Cause. Alternatively, irregular diet (hunger or overeating), injury from sweet and greasy foods, excessive sexual activity leading to deficiency below and excess above, tooth extraction, metal wounds, hematemesis, epistaxis, bleeding from bowels or urine, excessive blood loss, and uterine bleeding or trauma in women can all cause vertigo, visual disturbances with spinning sensations, and fainting upon standing. This belongs to the Non-internal/External Cause. Each has its specific treatment method.
Treats vertigo caused by Wind-Stroke, aversion to wind, spontaneous sweating, vomiting of cold clear fluid, as well as various postpartum diseases, or Wind-Stroke resulting in Fei (Flaccidity) and Jing (Spasm), characterized by back stiffness, trismus (lockjaw), fixed gaze, irritability, and fever.
