Treats *Jia* masses (abdominal masses formed by qi stagnation) resulting from the aggregation of grain qi, accompanied by stifling pain in the chest and hypochondrium, or vomiting of sour fluid, belching with odors resembling raw or cooked food after eating, abdominal distension, diarrhea, and edema of the four limbs.
*Muxiang* (Costi Rhizoma), *Sharen* (Amomi Fructus, drained and dried), *Pengzhu* (Curcumae Rhizoma, processed), *Hujiao* (Piperis Longi Fructus), *Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma, boiled in bean dregs water), *Ganqi* (Drynariae Rhizoma, stir-fried until smoke ceases, each 0.5 liang), *Suosharen* (Amomi Fructus), *Guixin* (Cinnamomi Cortex), *Qingpi* (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, each 3 liang), *Fuzi* (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed, peel and umbilicus removed), *Sanleng* (Sparganii Rhizoma, boiled in vinegar overnight, each 1 liang), *Baijiang* (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, processed, 1 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into powder, make pills with honey, sized like wu-tzu seeds (Cocculus Indicus seeds). Take 30-50 pills per dose, administered with a decoction of fresh ginger and tangerine peel, taken on an empty stomach.
Treats deficiency-cold accumulation within, qi weakness with injury, inability to transport and transform, hardness and fullness below the heart, distension of both hypochondria, pain in the heart and abdomen, belching of stale putrid qi; as well as cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea, or delayed and obstructed stool, chronic dysentery with red and white discharge mixed with pus and blood, undigested rice and grain, emaciation due to chronic illness, yellow complexion, bland taste in the mouth, and inability to eat.
*Roudoukou* (Myristicae Semen), *Chuanjiang* (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed), *Baicaoshuang* (Carbonized Bamboo Dust), each 2 liang; *Muxiang* (Costi Rhizoma) 1.5 liang; *Bidengqie* (Piperis Kadsurae Fructus); *Jingsanleng* (Sparganii Rhizoma, processed), each 1 liang; *Badou* (Crotonis Fructus, 100 grains, peel and heart removed, separately ground); *Xingren* (Persicae Semen, 100 grains, peel and tip removed, separately ground); *Jiu-la* (Wax melted with wine) 4 liang; *You* (Oil) 1 liang; *Dingxiang* (Caryophylli Flos) 1 liang.
Except for Badou and Xingren, grind the remaining ingredients into fine powder. Then add the ground Badou and Xingren and mix evenly. First, melt the oil and wax by heating, pour into the medicinal powder, mix into a paste, place in a mortar, pound over a thousand times, and immediately form pills sized like mung beans. Take 3-5 pills per dose, swallowed with warm water, taken after meals and before bedtime; for children, take 2-3 pills sized like millet grains.
The dysentery and diarrhea recorded in formula books are essentially the same as the Dongxie (cavity diarrhea), Xunxie (undigested food diarrhea), Tangxie (loose stool diarrhea), Yixie (overflow diarrhea), Ruxie (soft stool diarrhea), and Shuguzhuxia (water and grain pouring down) mentioned in the *Classic*. The difference lies only in whether the causative factors are external, internal, or neither strictly internal nor external. The *Classic* states: Severe cold leads to diarrhea; wind injury in spring leads to Xunxie in summer. Discussions state: Heat and dampness qi lingering long in the intestines and stomach causing slippery downward flow all belong to external causes. Joy scatters qi, anger agitates qi, worry gathers qi, fright moves qi, leading to isolation of zang-fu qi and depletion of spirit, inevitably causing Tangxie; these all belong to internal causes. As for injuries from consuming raw and cold foods, or excessive labor and idleness, these belong to neither internal nor external causes. By inferring from this and treating according to syndromes, one will not miss the source of the disease.
