The Three Yang meridians have combined diseases, while the Three Yin meridians do not. The so-called "combined disease of the Three Yang" includes Taiyang-Yangming combined disease and Shaoyang-Yangming combined disease. When transmitting from Taiyang to Yangming, headache and lower back pain indicate Taiyang; muscle heat, eye pain, and nasal dryness indicate Yangming. If chills persist, the pulse will necessarily be floating, large, and long. A floating pulse is characteristic of Taiyang; a long pulse is characteristic of Yangming. Treatment should follow the specific syndrome. Originally a Taiyang syndrome, excessive sweating may lead to delirium, classifying it under Yangming, hence the term "Taiyang-Yangming." If Shaoyang syndrome has not yet resolved, harmonization should still be employed; one must not immediately apply purgation as for Yangming.
Treats Taiyang syndrome characterized by stiffness in the nape and back, absence of sweat, and aversion to cold. Also treats the formula for combined disease of the Three Yang presenting with spontaneous diarrhea.
Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, 1 liang), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed, 3 fen), Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 0.5 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, each 0.5 liang).
Cut the above herbs into coarse pieces for decoction. Take 5 qianbi per dose, with 1.5 zhan of water, 5 slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and 1 Zao (Jujubae Fructus). Decoct until reduced to 70%, strain, and take warm before meals. In cases of combined disease of the Three Yang without diarrhea but with vomiting, add Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 6 qian.
Lianggan Shanghan (Two-meridian Cold Damage) refers to simultaneous involvement of exterior and interior meridians. On the first day, Taiyang and Shaoyin are both affected: headache, dry mouth, fullness in the throat, and thirst. On the second day, Yangming and Taiyin are both affected: abdominal fullness, fever, anorexia, and delirious speech. On the third day, Shaoyang and Jueyin are both affected: deafness, retraction of the testicles, and cold extremities. When both meridians are diseased simultaneously, treatment follows a sequence: first rescue the interior. Once the Zang organ Qi is internally rectified, urgently address the exterior. Rescuing the interior is indeed urgent, but addressing the exterior cannot be delayed. Rescue the interior and release the exterior, applying them skillfully according to various syndromes. Without exquisite discrimination and judgment, who could achieve this?
