治一切痈疽、发背、疖毒,恶候浸大,有死血阴毒在中,则不痛,敷之即痛;
The patient's pulse is rapid, the body has no fever, but instead feels chilly and aversion to cold. If there is a painful area, a carbuncle or ulcer appears on the back. To know whether pus is present or not, press the swollen area with your hand; if it feels hot, there is pus; if not hot, there is no pus. This is also a general statement. Naturally, there are cases where the pulse is not rapid, there is no fever, yet there is pain. This is because the disease originates from the Yin aspect. If there is no pain, it is even more of an ominous sign, which must not be ignored. Whenever heat is excessive and the pulse is rapid, use *Lulu* (Euphorbiae Humifusae Herba) and decoct *Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) alone as a soup; if the heat is not severe and the pulse is slow and weak, administer only *Wuxiang Liaoqiao Tang* (Five-Aromatic Forsythia Decoction). Other situations should follow the sequence of the previous four sections and eight matters, and medications should be prescribed based on the deduction of the Three Causes (San Yin), without fail achieving full recovery.
Treat all carbuncles and ulcers (*Yong Ju*), back carbuncles (*Fa Bei*), and boils (*Jie Du*). When symptoms are severe and worsening, and there is dead blood and Yin toxin in the middle, there will be no pain; applying the plaster will cause pain. If there are internal attacks caused by accumulated emotions such as worry and anger, the pain will be unbearable; applying the plaster will relieve the pain. Or if heat is stored internally, pressing the area makes one's hand unable to bear the heat; applying the plaster brings immediate coolness. Or if Qi is deficient and Blood is cold, the ulcer does not heal after breaking open; applying the plaster promotes healing. This was originally used by Doctor Han's household to save people and is extremely effective. If the cause is internal depression of the Seven Emotions, regardless of deficiency/excess or cold/heat, treatment will surely result in recovery.
*Yuanzhi* (Polygalae Radix) (Amount unspecified, wash with decoction, remove residue, pound into paste, remove heart)
Take the above single herb, grind into powder. Mix three qian of powder with one cup of wine, let it settle for a while until clear, drink the liquid, and apply the dregs to the diseased area.
Sun Simiao said: In emergencies, decoct *Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) alone as a soup; taking it leads to rapid bowel movement. This is an essential method.
Treat carbuncles and ulcers caused by taking mineral drugs, eating roasted/fried foods, drinking alcohol, or sexual exhaustion, as well as pain from various malignant sores.
*Gancao* (Licorice Root) (Half jin, raw and chopped)
Take the above single herb, soak in ten dou of water overnight, decoct until less than five sheng remain, remove dregs, boil down into a paste using silver or earthenware vessels. Divide into two doses, take with warm wine, one dose before bed, one dose at the fifth watch of the next day. The effect is achieved when foul matter is discharged.
Treat carbuncles and ulcers occurring anywhere due to injury from Wind, Cold, Summer-heat, and Dampness, or due to weeping or scattering, causing stagnation and coagulation of Qi and Blood, rotting of flesh into pus, and obstruction forming carbuncles and ulcers.
*Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (Steamed, one liang) *Mubiezi* (Semen Strychni) (Remove shell, slice) *Fangfeng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix) *Zhiqiao* (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) *Jiegeng* (Platycodonis Radix) *Gancao* (Licorice Root) (Each one fen)
Grind the above into a coarse powder. For each dose, take four da qian, add one cup of water, decoct to seven-tenths, remove dregs, add two qian of *Puxiao* (Natrii Sulfas), melt, and take hot. After obtaining loose stools or gas passage one or two times, then take *Wanjintang* (Ten-Thousand-Gold Decoction); if it is a Yin syndrome, only take *Wanjintang*, do not use *Tongsheng Shuangxing Tang*.
