Treats various forms of epilepsy, regardless of whether they are Yin or Yang patterns, or Cold or Heat patterns.
Guodan (National Cinnabar) and Jinfan (Jin Alum) (each 1 liang).
Place the above ingredients in a cavity carved into a brick, with a capacity of approximately 2 liang. First place Guodan at the bottom, then place Jinfan on top. Roast using 5 jin of white charcoal until the charcoal is completely consumed. Remove the material, grind it finely, and use pig heart blood that has not been washed with water as a binder to form pills the size of mung beans. Take 10 to 20 pills per dose, administered with Tangerine Peel Decoction (Chenpi Tang).
Treats 120 types of epilepsy, including mania, delirium, mental confusion, unconsciousness, and spitting of saliva/phlegm caused by fright. Also treats palpitations, fearfulness, insomnia while awake, and unilateral pain in the left hypochondrium.
Chensha (Cinnabar, boiled with Huangsongjie wine), Longchi (Dragon Teeth, boiled with Yuanzhi seedling vinegar).
Take equal parts of Chensha and Longchi, grind into powder, and use pig heart blood to form pills the size of a chicken head. Take one pill per dose. Decoct Ophiopogon Leaf (Maimendong Ye), Mung Bean, Juncus Effusus (Dengxin), Fresh Ginger, and White Honey in water until the beans are cooked. Swallow before bedtime; for children, crush half a pill and administer according to age.
Treats wind pathogens affecting the five Zang organs and six Fu organs, causing epilepsy with spasms and convulsions, spitting of saliva/phlegm, and loss of recognition; also treats infantile acute and chronic convulsive disorders (Jingfeng).
Shetian (Ophiorrhiza mungos root, four pieces, calcined red in a Jian ware cup, quenched once with one bowl of Broussonetia papyrifera sap), Arisaema Cum Bile (Paotian Nanxing), Bai Fuzi (Aconitum Carmichaelii Dehulled and Prepared), Chensha (Cinnabar, ground separately), Moschus (She Xiang, ground separately, each 0.5 liang).
Grind the above into powder, bind with rice paste to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. For each dose, dissolve one pill in warm water and take, adjusting quantity based on body size. Adults may chew 3 to 5 pills thoroughly and take with warm wine or rice gruel.
The five epilepsies correspond to the five Zang organs, but there is no Kidney epilepsy or Stomach epilepsy. This is because the Kidney corresponds to the Rat, which is not a domesticated animal, and thus lacks a presiding deity, so it does not generate epilepsy; the Stomach corresponds to the Chicken, which belongs to the six domestic animals, so it has an associated image; furthermore, the Stomach is the "Sea" of the five Zang organs, unlike other Fu organs. Additionally, the Dog corresponds to the Earthly Branch Xu, governed by the Hand-Shaoyang Small Intestine Meridian. Although the Dog is among the six domestic animals, there was initially no concept of "Dog Epilepsy," because Chen and Xu are positions of Kuigang (Commander and General stars) and Si Sha (Four Killers), where energy is submerged, so they do not manifest epilepsy images. Ancient formularies did not investigate these classifications in depth; students should be aware of this.
When the three Yang meridians merge with the three Yin meridians, Yang becomes deficient and Yin becomes excess, resulting in Dian disorder (epilepsy); when the three Yin meridians merge with the three Yang meridians, Yin becomes deficient and Yang becomes excess, resulting in Kuang disorder (mania). The treatise states: When Yang enters Yin, the disease manifests as quietude; when Yin enters Yang, the disease manifests as anger, and anger leads to mania. Patients suffering from mania refuse food, discard clothing, run about, sometimes claim to be divine, climb high places singing and laughing, jump over walls and roofs, perform actions beyond human capability, curse and speak nonsense, disregarding kinship ties. This condition is named Kuang disorder. It is often caused by a sudden trauma to Yang Qi or unresolved suppressed anger. Thus, the Classic states: The Yangming meridian's Qi and Blood move constantly, whereas the Taiyang and Shaoyang meridians do not move; when what does not move suddenly moves violently, it constitutes a major disease. This is its clinical presentation.
