Blood and Qi stagnation causing goiter and tumors differs from carbuncles and sores in manifestation, but the etiology is the same. Goiters mostly attach to the shoulders and neck, while tumors form wherever Qi condenses. These conditions typically have a long history, gradually enlarging and lengthening. Those that are hard and immovable are named Stone Goiter (Shi Ying); those with unchanged skin color are named Flesh Goiter (Rou Ying); those with exposed and knotted tendons/vessels are named Tendon Goiter (Jin Ying); those with intersecting red vessels are named Blood Goiter (Xue Ying); those that fluctuate with sorrow and anger are named Qi Goiter (Qi Ying). None of these five types of goiter should be arbitrarily incised or ruptured; doing so causes pus and blood to gush out, often leading to premature death. There are six types of tumors: Bone Tumor, Lipoma (Fat Tumor), Flesh Tumor, Pus Tumor, Blood Tumor. They also should not be incised or ruptured. Flesh tumors are particularly untreatable; attempting treatment kills the patient. Only Lipomas (Fat Tumors) can be cured by incising and removing the fatty substance.
