In the years of Zi and Wu, Shaoyin Junhuo (Ministerial Fire) governs the Heaven, and Yangming Zaojin (Dryness Metal) resides in the Earth.
In the years of Chou and Wei, Taiyin Shitu (Dampness Earth) combines with Taiyang Hanshui (Cold Water), with the two energies intertwining continuously.
In the years of Yin and Shen, Shaoyang Xianghuo (Ministerial Fire) is dominant, and Jueyin Fengmu (Wind Wood) connects within the Earth.
The situation in the years of Mao and You is inverted compared to that of Zi and Wu; similarly, the situations in the years of Chen and Xu, and Si and Hai are also like this.

Pediatrics is referred to as the "Mute Department," just as the ancient proverb says: "It is better to treat ten men than one woman; it is better to treat ten women than one child." It is most difficult to distinguish at a glance between infantile smallpox, measles, convulsions, and malnutrition syndromes. The key lies in the physician's extensive reading of various books and familiarity with dangerous and critical conditions, especially maintaining humility during clinical practice and constantly observing carefully. One must deeply fear that if the disease is severe but the medication is weak, procrastination will lead to mistakes; one must never be biased by personal views and use toxic drugs to kill people. Only in this way can one be called competent. Xu Huixi said: "Smallpox is unavoidable for anyone." Since the advent of variolation, children have had a path to avoid danger. This is the Heaven's benevolence, with divine figures emerging to create good methods to save people. Examining books on treating smallpox and measles, there are not less than a hundred or so schools, all adhering to mild and peaceful approaches, each with their own insights, leaving prescriptions and establishing treatments. Those I have personally seen or heard of are listed below, so that future pediatricians may know there is a correct path to follow.

Among these, I have seen more than seventy works. The unnamed sources cited in Ye Shi's *Youkeyaolüe* and the Wu and Yuan families cannot be traced. Others such as Guan Cheng's *Baochi Quanshu*, Ye Dachun's *Douxue Zhenshuan*, and *Douke Zhengzong* belong to heterodox schools in the field of smallpox treatment and are therefore disregarded. However, considering recent times, treatments for sha-rash and measles mostly adopt the methods of a few authors from Chen Jingyan's *Yisha Cao*, Jin Baosan's *Houke Zhenmi*, and Zhang Xiaoshan's *Sha Hou Zhengyi*. Their understanding of smallpox, measles, and sha-rash is ambiguous and inconsistent, confusing practitioners' judgment. Some even mistake sha-rash for stinking-toxic sha, and differentiate throat-sha as a throat department syndrome, subsequently using medicines such as Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Pill), Hongling Dan (Red Spirit Pellet), and Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder). This is akin to wild foxes discussing Zen, truly laughable, and demands exposure and condemnation.
