To treat tongue bleeding (She Nu).
Zhen Puhuang (Lygodii Spora, lightly stir-fried) and Luo'er Qing (Shells of Vivipara vivipara, equal parts).
Grind the above into powder. Apply a small amount to the affected area each time. Wait a moment, then rinse with warm salt water.
Formula for treating throat ulceration and tongue sores caused by prolonged drinking:
Take meat from river snails found in water, boil it with Congbai (Scallion), Chidouchi (Fermented Soybean), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), and Huajiao (Sichuan Pepper) to make a decoction to drink.
Another formula: Decoct Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung) with one bowl of Rice Vinegar. Rinse the mouth slowly with this liquid; relief will be immediate.
Spontaneous bleeding from the tongue is called "tongue bleeding" (She Nu). Stir-fry Huaihua (Flos Sophorae) until charred, grind into powder, and sprinkle it on the bleeding site to cure.
To treat tongue swelling: Use high-quality Pengsha (Borax) ground into powder. Decoct thinly sliced Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) and wipe the swollen area with the liquid; the swelling will gradually subside.
To treat tongue stiffness, where the tongue swells like a pig's bladder: Prick the large vessels on both sides under the tongue with a needle. Once blood flows, the swelling will dissipate. Do not evenly prick the central vessel, as this may cause uncontrollable bleeding and death.
Method for cauterizing swelling: Whenever the tongue is swollen, there must be "Jin Chong" (a parasitic worm) under the tongue, resembling a mole or silkworm, with a head and tail, and a white head. One can use a red-hot iron instrument to cauterize its head.
To treat aphonia: Stir-fry Huaihua (Flos Sophorae) on a new tile until fragrant. Lie supine in bed after midnight (third watch) and eat it at will. This also treats hemoptysis.
To treat toothache and edema due to deficiency and stagnation (See the Deficiency category in the Major Formulas section for formulas).
To treat toothache caused by rotten teeth: After removing the decayed part, if the remaining teeth are neither painful nor swollen but cannot chew food, take a dose of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) decoction after meals, followed by rinsing with a decoction made from [missing herb name] skin. On an empty stomach, take a pair of sheep kidneys, slice them without cutting through completely. Secure them with Congsi (Scallion threads), Jiaoziren (Sichuan Pepper seeds), Qingyan (Green Salt), and Jili (Tribuli Fructus) powder. Sprinkle two qian of medicinal powder inside, mix well, wrap in Lotus leaves, and bake until cooked. Eat to cure. (See the Spleen and Stomach category in the Major Formulas section for the formula).
To treat wind-induced toothache, including gum swelling and itching, loose teeth, gum ulceration and recession with bleeding, halitosis, etc., all can be treated.
Digupi (Cortex Lycii), Xiang Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Xixin (Radix Asari), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Huaihua (Flos Sophorae), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), Bencao (Radix Ligustici), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) (equal parts).
Grind the above into powder. Each time, apply approximately one zi (a traditional unit of weight/volume) to rub the teeth. If pain is severe, take two qian, add one dan half of water, half he of black beans, and three slices of ginger. Decoct, let cool slightly, and rinse the mouth.
