The *Su Wen* states: "Essence (Jing) is the root of the body. All five zang and six fu organs possess essence. The Kidney is the gathering place and the gatekeeper, obeying the command of the Heart. If humans can emulate the laws of nature, restrain desires, and moderate thoughts, essence will condense like paste, heart fire will not flare upward, and disease will not arise. Conversely, if one fails to protect against cold in winter, causing earth qi to be unstable, disease may occur." It further discusses: "In cases of spermatorrhea (Yi Jing) and white turbidity (Bai Zhuo), the pulse is often choppy, which indicates damage to essence. Medical classics state: 'At age sixteen, a man's Kidney Qi becomes vigorous, and Tian Gui arrives.' Tian Gui refers to essence; essence is the root of the body. The Kidney stores essence, and this storing function must not be injured. These conditions arise from improper health preservation, such as emotional instability, imbalance of work and rest, sorrow, excessive thinking, overindulgence in desires, and irregular daily routines. This leads to heart fire flaring upward without extinguishing, and kidney water scattering without returning. The upper and lower cannot nourish each other, resulting in pathology of both the Heart and Kidney. Pathology of the Heart causes spermatorrhea and white turbidity; pathology of the Kidney also causes spermatorrhea and white turbidity. These are all due to the failure of communication between Heart and Kidney and the laxity of the key mechanisms. For Kidney pathology, one should employ securing and consolidating methods; for Heart pathology, one should employ calming and tranquilizing methods. Furthermore, among young and strong individuals, if emotions stir internally, wishes remain unfulfilled, and lewd thoughts arise externally, leading to these symptoms, treatment should not rely solely on astringent consolidation, as this will worsen the condition. Instead, the following formula, Zhu Ling Wan, should be used as the primary treatment. Ban Xia has diuretic properties, and Zhu Ling guides kidney water, embodying the intent of guiding qi to ensure patency. Scholar Xu has elaborated on this in detail. However, patients with deficiency and seminal emission are not suitable for taking this medicine. The formulas are recorded below. In clinical practice, careful examination is required."
