Puncture the various points on the sole of the foot; if no blood flows out after pressing, the disease will subside immediately. This disease is caused by excessive drinking and drunkenness (Puji Fang · Zhen Jiu).
Wang said that his mother had been ill for a long time, and her feet suddenly swelled in summer. According to old traditions, one should not moxa the feet in summer, so he dared not use mugwort moxibustion. He casually used needle-fire to heat the "Zhen" point (with the character 'Xue' as the radical) and punctured the Zusanli (ST36) point until slight bleeding occurred. After repeating this several times, the swelling disappeared as if it had never existed. He had previously suffered from foot ailments and witnessed this miraculous effect (Puji Fang · Zhen Jiu).
To treat knee stiffness and inability to flex or extend, take the blood from the affected meridian, and recovery will be immediate (Zisheng Jing). The acupoint is Weizhong (BL40) (Puji Fang · Zhen Jiu).
Bloodletting with cupping therapy for arthritis: Various types of arthritis, especially acute arthritis, can be treated by tapping with a plum-blossom needle, followed by fire cupping on suitable areas.
Bloodletting with cupping therapy for soft tissue injury of the knee: Tap the injured area with a plum-blossom needle until bleeding occurs, then apply fire cups. The amount of bleeding should be moderate. If cupping is difficult, place a piece of flatbread under the cup before applying it. This method is also applicable to soft tissue injuries of the ankle (Zhenjiu Zhiliao Shouce).
The Shixiao Fang records: Juji, an official in Shaanxi, suffered from hemiplegia, with both toes touching the ground and unable to extend. He invited my master to treat him in the capital. Upon arrival, the master used a long needle to puncture Weizhong (BL40), inserting it deeply to the bone without causing pain. One to two sheng of black, viscous blood was drawn. This was repeated six or seven times, along with herbal medicine for three months, resulting in complete recovery (Puji Fang · Zhen Jiu).
Massage and bloodletting therapy for sprains and contusions: Treated 32 cases of acute sprains and 18 cases of contusions/crush injuries. After 1-2 sessions using this method alone, 33 cases showed improvement, 16 cases improved, and 1 case was ineffective. Method: First, massage the affected area for 1-2 minutes to locate tender points; then massage the symmetric area on the healthy side. When the pain in the affected area subsides and mild pain appears at the massaged site on the healthy side, disinfect the skin of the affected area and puncture 3-5 times with a three-edged needle. Squeeze out the blood, and the pain will disappear immediately, restoring free movement (Zhejiang Zhongyi Zazhi).
Three-edged needle plus moxibustion for treating ganglion cysts (36 cases): Local acupoints are selected. For unilocular cysts, insert the needle vertically at the highest point of the cyst; for multilocular cysts, insert at the highest point of each nodule. After insertion, rotate the tip of the three-edged needle deeply towards all directions without excessive force. After removing the needle, use both thumbs to squeeze around the puncture sites until all contents are expelled. Cover the puncture site with a sterile dry cotton ball, press a coin on top, and secure with a 3-5 cm wide adhesive tape ring. Apply moxibustion with a moxa stick at the puncture site daily for about 15 minutes. Remove the tape after 7 days. Results: 33 cases cured, 3 recurrences (Zhongguo Zhenjiu).
Waianjian (Exterior Malleolus Tip) is located three cun above the tip of the lateral malleolus. It treats external muscle spasms. It can be moxaed for seven moxa cones or punctured to bleed (Leijing Tuyi).
Bloodletting cured osteoarticular tuberculosis: One case of knee joint tuberculosis with mixed infection was treated. Symptoms alleviated after one session of bloodletting at Weizhong (BL40) and Yinjiao (RN7). Switching to Zusanli (ST36) and Weiyang (BL39) bloodletting significantly reduced swelling and pain, allowing the patient to walk with support. Subsequent bloodletting at Shangjuxu (ST37), Yinlingquan (SP9), Yanglingquan (GB34), and Weizhong (BL40) led to full recovery. No recurrence was observed during a 5-year follow-up. Other cured conditions included hip joint tuberculosis, thoracic spinal tuberculosis with extensor paraplegia, and cold abscesses complicating thoracic spinal tuberculosis. Method: Select acupoints or visible veins around them, disinfect routinely, and pierce the venous wall with a small three-edged needle to drain 10-20 ml of dark purple stasis blood. Apply cupping after bleeding stops, remove after 3 minutes, and apply 2% iodine tincture with a cotton ball (Xin Zhongyi).
When treating malaria by bloodletting, first ask where the symptoms started, and puncture that area first. If leg and shin soreness appears first, puncture the ten spaces between the toes of the Foot-Yangming Meridian to bleed (Neijing · Cima Pian).
Bachong (Eight Rushes) is an extra point located in the webbing between the toes, totaling eight points on both feet. Needle depth 1-3 fen, moxa 3-5 cones. Treats redness and swelling of the dorsum of the foot (puncture to bleed) (Zhenjiu Kongxue Ji Qili Fa Bianlan).
Waianjian Er Xu (Two Points at Exterior Malleolus Tip) are located at the tip of the lateral malleolus. They can be moxaed for seven cones. Treats external muscle spasms of the foot and cold-heat gout; puncture with a three-edged needle to bleed (Zhenjiu Dacheng).
Trauma: Falling causes evil blood to accumulate in the abdomen, leading to abdominal fullness and inability to urinate or defecate. First administer purgatives. This injures the Jueyin meridian above and the Shaoyin collateral below. Puncture the area anterior to Ran Gu (BL64) below the ankle to bleed. If this does not work, puncture the arterial pulse on the dorsum of the foot. If still ineffective, puncture San Mao (LU11), making one wound each, and stop bleeding immediately. Puncture the right side for left-sided issues and vice versa. A strong pulse indicates survival; a weak pulse indicates death (Neijing).
In the Han Dynasty, the wet nurse of King A of Jibu suffered from hot jue syndrome with hot feet. Chunyu Yi punctured the sole of the foot, resulting in immediate recovery (Zhenjiu Dacheng).
Weizhong (BL40) is contraindicated for moxibustion. Blood can be drawn from the purple veins surrounding it, but caution is advised for weak patients.
Huantiao (GB30) treats wind in the legs and thighs. Carefully attack Juliao (GB29) and Erbiao (BL34/35). Ensure all toxic blood is removed from Weizhong (BL40); this demonstrates the divine skill of the physician.
For pain on the dorsum of the foot, start at Qiuxu (GB40). Diagonal needle puncture to bleed brings immediate relief. Recognize Jie Xi (ST41) and Shangqiu (SP5); distinguish tonification and sedation techniques clearly.
Qian Shi Lao (Corpse Consumption Disease) is difficult to treat. Bleeding Yongquan (KI1) avoids disaster. For excessive phlegm, sedate Fenglong (ST40). For asthma, moxa Dantian (CV17/CV6). (Zhenjiu Dacheng · Yulong Ge).
Dong Yuan said: If qi stagnates in the arm and leg, select points there. First remove blood from the vessels, then deeply stimulate the Ying-Spring and Shu-Stream points of the Foot-Yangming Meridian: Neiting (ST44) and Xian Gu (ST43).
Puncturing the large vessel at Weizhong (BL40) may cause fainting and pallor (Zhenjiu Juying).
Three-edged needle picking for triggering finger: Method: Insert a three-edged needle through the skin into the nodule at the transverse crease anterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint of the affected finger (the nodule moves with finger flexion/extension). Pick up and down along the tendon path. When picking the tendon sheath, a clicking sound is felt. At this moment, when the patient flexes and extends the finger, it moves freely without clicking. Remove the needle immediately. One case reported, one-year duration, cured after one session (Liaoning Zhongyi Zazhi).

Select veins showing stasis around the acupoints and puncture with a three-edged needle to bleed 10-20 ml. Apply cupping for 5 minutes after bleeding stops. Once every 15-20 days. Treated 30 cases, 1-3 sessions: 28 cured, 2 basically cured (Shaanxi Zhongyi).
Plum-blossom needle, cupping, and moxibustion for Bi Syndrome (90 cases): Based on pain location and meridian pathways, select 1-2 Ashi points above or below the pain. Disinfect, tap with a plum-blossom needle (area slightly larger than the cup mouth) until skin bleeds. Immediately apply fire cupping, leave for 5-10 minutes. After removing the cup, wipe blood with sterile paper, then apply mild moxibustion with a moxa stick for 3-7 minutes. Treatment every 2 days, 5 sessions per course, 5-day interval. Results: 43 cured, 35 marked improvement, 11 improved, 1 ineffective. Total effective rate 98.9% (Zhongguo Zhenjiu).
