Some cases involve simultaneous disease of the Taiyang and Yangming meridians. Some involve simultaneous disease of the three Yang meridians. If the pathogen does not transmit, it is Taiyang combined with Yangming, treated with Shengma Gegen Tang (Cimicifugae et Puerariae Decoction). If Yangming combines with Shaoyang, Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) is combined with Shengma Gegen Tang. Alternatively, Jiwei Qianghuo Tang (Nine-Ingredient Notopterygium Decoction) may be used universally.
Initially, there is a combined disease of two Yang meridians; subsequently, the Qi of the two Yang meridians becomes vigorous while that of one Yang meridian declines, and the pathogen consolidates into one meridian where the condition is most severe. This is Yangming combining with Taiyang, treated with Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) combined with Shengma Gegen Tang, or alternatively, Jiwei Qianghuo Tang.
Jiwei Lizhong Tang (Modified Licorice and Ginger Decoction): Treats Zhonghan (Cold Strike to the Middle Jiao). This refers to direct invasion by True Cold during winter, affecting the whole body, making it difficult to distinguish specific meridians. Symptoms include cold extremities (Jue Leng), abdominal pain, vomiting, and in severe cases, sudden collapse, coma, and loss of consciousness. The pulse is slow and weak.
Ingredients: Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Renshen (Ginseng), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Gancao (Licorice Root), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Xixin (Asarum), Fuling (Poria), and five slices of Weijiang (Baked Ginger). Decoct until ripe, then add half a cup of Jiangzhi (Fresh Ginger Juice). Apply hot ginger externally to the abdomen and press frequently. For mild cases, use this formula as is; for severe cases, add Shufuzi (Prepared Aconite Root); if the body is extremely cold, add Mahuang (Ephedra Stem); if accompanied by Qi stagnation, add Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix); if vomiting saliva and foam, add Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos); if abdominal pain, add Muxiang and Sharen (Amomi Fructus); if accompanied by food retention, add Caoguo (Tsaoko Cardamom Fruit) and Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus); if diarrhea persists, add Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma). External moxibustion on Guanyuan (CV4) and Qihai (CV6) should be performed, followed by the Congyun method (scallion ironing therapy).
This disease occurs in spring. The classics state: "Fever without aversion to cold, but with thirst, is called Wenbing (Warm Disease)." It is treated by distinguishing between exterior and interior syndromes. For exterior syndromes resembling warm weather, use Shengma Gegen Tang; for those resembling cold weather, use Chaihu Guizhi Tang (Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Decoction). Taiyang combined with Shaoyang is treated with Baidu San (Poison-Expelling Powder) combined with Xiaochaihu Tang. Taiyang combined with Yangming is treated with Baidu San combined with Shengma Gegen Tang. Yangming combined with Shaoyang is treated with Shengma Gegen Tang combined with Xiaochaihu Tang. For half-exterior half-interior syndromes, use Xiaochaihu Tang; for interior syndromes, use Da Chaihu Tang. In severe cases where exterior and interior symptoms erupt simultaneously, use Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Universal Rescue Powder). For exterior and interior heat with spontaneous diarrhea, use Chaihu Huangqin Tang (Bupleurum and Scutellaria Decoction) plus Mutong (Akebia Caulis) and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus).
Zhuye Shigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction): Treats Xu Fan (Deficiency Irritability) and other complicated syndromes. The exterior syndrome has resolved, but the pathogenic toxin remains, with heat binding in the heart and chest, causing irritability, fullness, extreme thirst, and excessive drinking.
