Pediatric vomiting and diarrhea are primarily treated with Qian's Yihuang San (E Huang Powder) or Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder), modified according to the specific syndrome. For pediatric vomiting and diarrhea occurring in summer, Yi Yuan San (Benefit the Origin Powder) is most excellent. If pediatric vomiting and diarrhea persist, there is a fear of it developing into Man Jing Feng (Slow Convulsion).
Qian's Five Diarrhea Formulas and Five Tonification Formulas can all be used. To treat vomiting, diarrhea, and jaundice: use Sanleng (Rhizoma Sparganii), Ezhu (Rhizoma Curcumae), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Qingpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Maiya (Fructus Hordei Germinatus), Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), and Fuling (Poria), grind into fine powder, and take with rice water. For vomiting and diarrhea caused by milk or food stagnation, add Shanzha (Fructus Crataegi); for those caused by seasonal epidemic qi, add Huashi (Talcum); if accompanied by fever, add Bohe (Herba Menthae). If vomiting and diarrhea are accompanied by abdominal pain, vomiting of milk, and diarrhea, this also indicates Cold; regulate the Spleen and Stomach, mix Pingwei San (Calm the Stomach Powder) with cooked honey, combine equally with Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill), name it Wan'an Gao (Wan'an Paste), and administer with rice drink. Wan'an Wan (Wan'an Pill) strengthens the Stomach, promotes appetite, and stops vomiting and diarrhea: Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Fuling (Poria), Renshen (Radix Ginseng) (each 1.5 qian), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis), Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis) (each 5 qian), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis), Guangui (Cortex Cinnamomi) (2 qian), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) (2.5 qian). Grind into fine powder, refine honey to make pills, size of Sophora japonica seeds, take 5 pills each time, dissolve in rice water before meals.
For pediatric dysentery, decoct Huanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), and Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) for oral administration. For red dysentery (dysentery with blood), add Taoren (Semen Persicae) and Honghua (Flos Carthami); for white dysentery (dysentery with mucus), add Huashi powder (Talcum). To treat pediatric food stagnation causing dysentery with pure blood, decoct Chaoqu (Fried Massa Medicata Fermentata), Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis), Huashi (Talcum), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), and Fuling (Poria) as soup, and take Baohe Wan (Preserve Harmony Pill) with it. For persistent pediatric dysentery where water and grain are not digested, grind Zhike (Fructus Aurantii) into powder, take 2 qian mixed with rice drink. For pediatric red dysentery, crush Qingyan (Natrii Chloridum) to extract juice, take half a cup each time.
When Ascaris attacks the heart/chest, drink extremely concentrated decoction of Yiyiren (Semen Coicis). Another method: roast Shijunzi (Fructus Quisqualis) over fire, eat at will, and swallow with decoction made from its shells. For pain caused by Ascaris, Tang's formula records a poem: "Originally due to rough diet, worms grow inside leading to emaciation; excessive sweet foods cause pain, fear of medicine and crying lead to withered flesh. Observe the form at the philtrum, the nose tip and under lips turn black suddenly; when saliva dries and pain settles, the worm should retreat; expelling the Ascaris means the disease is gone." This formula uses Anshen San (Calm the Spirit Powder): Ganxi (Resina Taxodi, stir-fried until smoke appears) (2 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar) (5 qian), Shexiang (Moschus) (1 qian). Grind into fine powder, 0.5 qian for three-year-olds, taken on an empty stomach with Koushen Gen Tang (Bitter Chinaberry Root Decoction). For all methods of expelling parasites, medication must be taken at the beginning of the month, when the worm heads upward, ensuring efficacy. To treat Taenia solium (white tapeworm), take one handful of Shi Liugen (Root Bark of Punica Granatum) growing eastward, wash and chop, decoct in three sheng of water until reduced to less than half a bowl, take warm at the first watch of the night (Wugeng); if worms are fully expelled, replenish with congee. Huachong Wan (Expel Parasite Pill): Leshi (Semen Ardisiae), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Hufen (Cerussa), Koushen Gen (Radix Meliae Toosendan) (5 qian), Baifan (Alumen) (half raw, half calcined, total 3 qian). Grind into fine powder, make pills with starch paste, size of Vigna angularis seeds, take 30 pills each time, swallow with wine, malt liquor, or raw oil. Also treats Ascaris biting the heart and vomiting water: grind Leshi (Semen Ardisiae) into powder, make honey pills, take 30 pills on an empty stomach with honey water or vinegar water. For treating Ascaris, use Koushen Gen (Radix Meliae Toosendan) as the sovereign herb, assisted by Erchen Tang (Two Aged Herbs Decoction) for decoction and administration. In winter, pediatric vomiting of Ascaris is mostly due to Stomach Cold and Deficiency; use Qian's Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder) adding two Dingxiang (Flos Caryophylli). Zhichong Wan (Parasite-Expelling Pill): Huhuanglian (Rhizoma Coptidis Teetae) (1 qian), Binglang (Arecae Semen) (1 qian), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) (1 qian), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), Yujin (Radix Curcumae Longae), Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) (each 2 qian), Leiwan (Semen Walsurae). Grind into fine powder, make pills with starch paste.
