Treats body heat and difficult urination caused by heatstroke. This medicine is cool in nature, capable of clearing accumulated heat in the epigastrium, and due to its bland taste, it can percolate dampness; thus, it promotes urination, relieves thirst, and generates fluids.
The formula is found in the "Shanghan" (Cold Damage) section.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus).
Boil the above ingredients with one zhong (unit of volume) of water.
Treats cases where latent summerheat leads to excessive drinking, resulting in dry mouth and throat, or vomiting or diarrhea; all these conditions are treated by this formula.
Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (processed with ginger juice, half a slice), Bian Dou (Lablab Album Seed) (lightly stir-fried, half jin), Xiangru (Moslae Herba) (free from soil, one jin). If there is phlegm, add Tian Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma).
Take three qian (unit of weight) each time, boil with one zhong of water, add a little wine, decoct, and take cold. Taking it hot may cause diarrhea.
Another prescription: Add Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) four liang, processed with ginger juice, stir-fried until old yellow.
Treats cases where latent summerheat leads to excessive drinking, causing dampness to affect the spleen and stomach, leading to the failure to distinguish between water and grain, cholera-like vomiting, disharmony of the zang-fu organs, or diarrhea.
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (three jin), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (each six liang four qian).
First, stir-fry Gancao with Baisha Mi (white sand honey) until eight parts done, then add Ganjiang and stir-fry together. Then add Xingren and continue frying until Xingren no longer makes sound. Sift clean, then add Rougui, pound and sieve into powder. Take three qian each time. Decoct with one zhong of water and take. If restlessness occurs, mix well with well water; taking it mixed with boiling water is also acceptable. No specific time restriction.
Treats disharmony between the heart and spleen, dysfunction of qi ascending and descending, cholera with muscle cramps, vomiting and diarrhea, alternating chills and fever, phlegm-wheezing and cough, chest and diaphragm fullness and stuffiness, dizziness and headache, edema of limbs and joints, lethargy and fatigue, red and scanty urine, as well as yin-yang confusion in Shanghan (Cold Damage), exposure to summerheat and latent heat, restlessness, or progression to dysentery, middle-jiao fullness with dryness and thirst, aversion to food.
