栀子柏皮汤 (Zhizi Bopi Tang)
参见“发黄”条。
先发热,后发黄,这是因为热邪熏蒸所致发黄,故用此方,不同于因食积停滞发黄而使用消导积滞的方法。
大青龙汤 (Da Qinglong Tang)
参见“烦躁”条。
桂枝麻黄各半汤 (Guizhi Mahuang Ge Ban Tang)

When heat pathogen is bound in the Bladder, presenting with rapid pulse and thirst, Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) is used; this formula was established to simultaneously resolve both exterior and interior conditions of the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel.
Gegen Jieji Tang (Kudzu Root Decoction to Release the Muscle Layer)
Ingredients: Gegen (Puerariae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba).
This formula disperses exterior pathogens of the Yangming (Yang Brightness) channel and releases latent pathogens trapped within the Yangming channel that fail to emerge. If accompanied by aversion to cold and headache, add Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix); if alternating chills and fever occur, add Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix); if lower back pain and cold feet are present, add Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix).
Gegen Baihu Tang (Kudzu Root and White Tiger Decoction)
See "Thirst".
For fever caused by exterior pathogens of the Yangming channel, use the aforementioned Gegen Jieji Tang. If both exterior and interior are hot, use Gegen to disperse the exterior and Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) to clear the interior.
Sanhuang Jusheng Tang (Three-Yellow and Giant-Sesame Decoction)
See "Delirium".
Daochi Geban Tang (Half-and-Half Decoction for Guiding Out Fire)
See "Abdominal Pain".
Exterior heat should be treated by dispersing the exterior, while interior heat should be treated by clearing the interior. This formula combines Xiexin Tang (Heart-Draining Decoction) and Daochi San (Decoction to Guide Out Fire); its power to clear heat is specialized, and its merit in promoting urination is significant.
Liangge San (Cooling the Diaphragm Powder)
See "Mania".
This formula treats symptoms of heat binding in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner) and fever of the Lung and Stomach. For detailed modifications, see "Mania".
Da Chengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction)
See "Constipation".
Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction)
See "Alternating Chills and Fever".
Chaihu Guizhi Tang (Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Decoction)
Ingredients: Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
This formula is essentially Xiao Chaihu Tang added with Guizhi, removing Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and substituting with jujube flesh. In spring, summer, and autumn, Guizhi is contraindicated and may be replaced with Qianghuo. If thirst is present, remove Banxia and Shengjiang, and add Trichosanthis Radix (Tianhuafen); if symptoms involve the Yangming channel, add Gegen and Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu); if there is no sweating, add Fangfeng.
Zhizi Bopi Tang (Gardenia and Phellodendron Bark Decoction)
See "Jaundice".
Fever precedes jaundice; this is jaundice steamed by heat, hence this formula is used. It differs from jaundice caused by food stagnation, which requires formulas to digest stagnation.
Da Qinglong Tang (Major Blue Dragon Decoction)
See "Restlessness".
Guizhi Mahuang Ge Ban Tang (Half-Dose Decoction of Cinnamon Twig and Ephedra)
Ingredients: Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus).
Mahuang Tang added with Gypsum Fibrosum, ginger, and jujube is renamed Da Qinglong Tang; the gypsum restricts the acrid-hot nature, while ginger and jujube harmonize the middle qi, transforming an acrid-hot formula into an acrid-cool one. This formula similarly adds ginger and jujube to harmonize the middle, but adds Baishao to nourish and astringe yin, transforming a diaphoretic formula into a harmonizing formula.
Guizhi Er Yuebi Yi Tang (Two Parts Cinnamon Twig and One Part Yuebi Decoction)
Ingredients: Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens).
The original Mahuang Tang added with ginger, jujube, and gypsum is named Da Qinglong Tang; added with Baishao, it is named Ge Ban Tang. This current formula uses a mild dose of Guizhi Tang as a base, adding gypsum to restrain acrid-warmth and Baishao to astringe yin blood. Since it transforms light into lighter, it is called "Yuebi," describing its non-aggressive nature.
Da Chaihu Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction)
See "Alternating Chills and Fever".
Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction)
See "Thirst".
Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction)
See "Hiccups/Cough".
This decoction disperses water qi internally and disperses exterior pathogens externally. See the chapter on "Hiccups" for details.
Xiao Chengqi Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction)
See "Constipation".
Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang (Ephedra, Prepared Aconite, and Asarum Decoction)
Ingredients: Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma).
This addresses Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) channel contraction of cold damage with fever. The treatment method for Taiyang cannot be used; thus, this formula is employed to warm the meridians and dispel cold pathogens, allowing the pathogen to exit from the interior to the exterior.
