Gancao (Licorizae Radix et Rhizoma, four liang, honey-fried) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, two liang, processed)
The above two ingredients. With three sheng of water, decoct to obtain one sheng and five he of liquid. Remove the dregs. Divide into two doses and take warm.
Note: This formula is indicated for cases where Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) was mistakenly used, causing Yang Qi to float upward, resulting in various complications such as Jueni (cold extremities), dryness in the throat, irritability, vomiting and regurgitation, and delirious speech. This method is specifically proposed to restore Yang Qi and rescue from reversal. Observing that the dosage of Gancao is double that of Ganjiang, it primarily utilizes the sweet and moderating nature of Gancao, with a slight addition of Ganjiang as a guide to lead Yang Qi back downward. It does not rely on the pungent and hot nature of Ganjiang to restore Yang Qi. Practitioners must understand this intent.
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, four liang) Gancao (Licorizae Radix et Rhizoma, four liang, honey-fried)
The above two ingredients. With three sheng of water, decoct to obtain one sheng and five he of liquid. Remove the dregs. Divide into two doses and take warm.
Note: When Yang Qi floats upward, after using Gancao Ganjiang Tang to restore its Yang, if the cramping and stiffness remain unresolved, it clearly indicates that Body Fluids are failing to nourish the meridians. By harmonizing with Shaoyao and Gancao, the legs can extend. This also serves to correct the reversal caused by the improper use of Guizhi Tang. This method has proven quite effective in practice and should not be neglected due to its simplicity.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, two liang, nodes removed) Chixiaodou (Vigna Semen Rubrum, one sheng) Lianyao (Scutellariae Radix, two liang) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, forty pieces, skin and tips removed) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, two liang, sliced)
Shengzibai Pi (Catalpae Cortex, one sheng) Gancao (Licorizae Radix et Rhizoma, one liang, honey-fried) Dazao (Zizyphi Fructus, twelve pieces)
The above eight ingredients. With one dou of rainwater (Liaoshui), first decoct Mahuang. After boiling again, remove the foam on the surface. Add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain three sheng of liquid. Divide into three warm doses. Complete the administration within half a day.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage), stagnant heat trapped inside will inevitably cause the body to turn yellow. Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou Tang is the primary treatment. Note: Stagnant heat inside means that the exterior pathogenic factor of Shanghan is also stagnant and fails to circulate. Exterior and interior pathogens combine, leading to jaundice. Treatment should address both interior and exterior simultaneously. To resolve the exterior of Shanghan, the established method of Mahuang, Xingren, and Gancao remains applicable. For stagnant heat, Guizhi is unsuitable; instead, Lianyao is used to disperse heat in the channels. Chixiaodou and Zibai Pi are further employed to clear heat inside, while Jiang and Zao are used to harmonize. Since the jaundice originates from Shanghan, it still involves the half-exterior level, representing a modified variation of Mahuang Tang.
