(When sweating and purging methods are not thorough, residual pathogenic heat and toxin accumulate behind the ear, a condition named "Fa Yi" (Parotitis). It should be dissipated quickly; if delayed slightly, it will suppurate.)
Residual toxin causing Fa Yi. (For cases that can be dissipated, use Lianqiao Baidu San (Forsythia Decoction to Eliminate Toxins); for cases that cannot be dissipated, regardless of whether the abscess has ruptured or not, use Neituo Xiaodu San (Internal Support Decoction to Eliminate Toxins).)
(A few days after recovery, gradual onset of mental confusion, delirious speech, groaning as if seeing ghosts, all due to residual heat accumulating in the Pericardium Collateral.)
If the pulse is floating. (Apply mild sweating method. Use Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) added with Zi Su (Perilla Leaf), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), and Sheng Di (Rehmannia Root).) If deficiency is severe. (Use Gui Pi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) added with Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) and Zhu Ye (Bamboo Leaf).)
Residual toxin causing sores/ulcers. (Decoct Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Jing Jie (Schizonepeta Spike), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), and Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit) for oral administration. Externally, powder Chi Xiao Dou (Adzuki Bean), mix with Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis), and apply using egg white. This is highly effective.)
Edema caused by water qi. In robust individuals. (Cook a small amount of Shang Lu (Phytolacca Root) into porridge and eat it.) Edema caused by Spleen Qi deficiency. (Combine Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) and Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) for concurrent administration.) Swelling of the feet. (Decoct Da Mi (Rice), Fu Ling (Poria), and Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) to drink as tea instead.)
Deficient cold in the Stomach, inability to receive fluids, thus leading to a preference for spitting saliva. (Use Li Zhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) added with Yi Zhi Ren (Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit).)
(This is due to the closure and stagnation of Zang organ Qi, preventing free flow. The external symptoms resemble Jie Xiong (Chest Binding), but food intake remains normal, and frequent diarrhea occurs, which is the difference. The Cun (Inch) pulse is floating, the Guan (Bar) pulse is deep, fine, and tight, with Yin sinews pulling the umbilicus and abdomen in pain.)
Stagnant Qi under the hypochondrium, connected to beside the umbilicus, pain radiating to the lower abdomen and Yin sinews. This is Cold Zang Jie (Cold Organ Binding), which is invariably fatal. Zang Jie presents without Yang symptoms, no alternating chills and fever, the person is rather quiet, the tongue coating is slippery, and attacking/purgation is contraindicated. (Use Zhu Yu Si Ni Tang (Evodia Four Reversal Decoction); moxibustion on Guan Yuan (CV4) is suitable.)
(The common writing "Jing" is an error, corrected here.) The disease manifests as body heat, cold feet, neck stiffness, aversion to cold, headache, red face and eyes, head shaking, trismus (lockjaw), spasms and convulsions of hands and feet, and opisthotonos. Taiyang channel first injured by Wind, then affected by Cold, with no sweat, is Gang Jing (Yang Spasm); first injured by Wind, then affected by Dampness, with sweat, is Rou Jing (Yin Spasm). Floating-tight pulse, thirst, looking upward with open eyes indicates Yang Jing, easy to treat; deep pulse, no thirst, closed eyes indicates Yin Jing, difficult to treat. It may be excess due to Wind pathogen invasion or deficiency due to blood exhaustion.)
Taiyang disease, body stiffness, pulse is surprisingly deep and slow. (Use Gua Lou Gui Zhi Tang (Trichosanthes and Cinnamon Twig Decoction).) Taiyang disease with no sweat, urine output surprisingly low, Qi rushing upward, trismus and inability to speak. (Use Ge Gen Tang (Kudzu Decoction).)
