It is often observed that a pulse changing from Wiry (Xian) to Floating (Fu) indicates an impending resolution of the disease. If the pulse is Floating and Hollow (Kou), chills followed by sweating will occur, leading to recovery; if the pulse is Floating and Rapid (Shu) but not Hollow, sweating will occur without chills, leading to recovery. Generally, when a pulse interacts with pathogenic factors, it tends to be Floating, Large, Wiry, or Rapid. It must only become Fine/Weak after treatment via diaphoresis (sweating) or purgation (downward draining). The current pulse is naturally Fine/Weak because previous treatments with diaphoresis or purgation have depleted the body's Jin-Ye (Body Fluids) and Yin fluids. However, since the Yin and Yang Qi have harmonized spontaneously, the disease resolves without chills or profuse sweating. These three pulse patterns are all observed at the time when the disease is about to resolve. (Haizang stated: Cases where resolution occurs after chills...)
