The throat (Houyan) is the pathway for breath. If injured externally or by self-inflicted cutting, the condition progresses rapidly; timely treatment can save life, but delay leads to blood depletion, cold forehead, and death due to qi exhaustion. The plaster should be four to five cun long and two to three cun wide, applied horizontally extending to healthy skin to prevent the medicament from falling off; the neck should be wrapped with cloth strips, and the patient should lie supine with a high pillow to keep the neck flexed and immobile, facilitating wound closure. Treatment should take place in a wind-proof room to ensure slow and comfortable breathing. Decoct Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Jing Mi (Oryzae Semen Glutinosum, rice), and Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, fresh ginger) to make a soup, which should be drunk frequently to replenish and connect the primordial qi. If pus flows out after two or three days, remove the previous dressing, clean with Gan Cong Tang (Sweet Onion Decoction), sprinkle Sheng Ji San (Flesh-Generating Powder), apply Yu Hong Gao (Jade Red Ointment), and cover with Chang Rou Gao (Flesh-Growing Plaster) to protect against wind pathogens. In winter, change the dressing every three days; in summer, every one to two days. Following this method, pain will naturally cease, muscles will gradually regenerate, and recovery can be achieved after about a month of regulation with Ba Zhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction). If constipation occurs, do not blindly use purgatives; instead, administer Ma Ren Wan (Hemp Seed Pill). In urgent cases, use Dan Dao Fa (Bile Suppository Method) without damaging the primordial qi.
According to *Nei Jing Tu* (Illustrations of Internal Organs): The larynx (Hou) is located anteriorly and governs exhalation; the pharynx (Yan) is located posteriorly and governs ingestion. The larynx is firm and hollow, connected to the root of the Lung, serving as the pathway for breath, allowing respiration to enter and exit, connecting downward to all zang organs, and acting as the crucial pathway for qi transformation. The pharynx is soft and hollow, connected to the root of the Stomach, serving as the pathway for food and drink, where water and grain enter the Stomach and connect downward to all fu organs, acting as the transit hub for transportation. If this area is injured, how dangerous it is! The practitioner must have heart and hand in harmony, making no slightest error, to avoid mistakes. First, observe that wounds from curved blades are deep, while those from straight blades are shallow. Self-inflicted cuts with the left hand are deeper than those with the right hand. A single ligature cut is deeper than double ligature cuts. If the trachea is ruptured with air leaking in and out, applying the dressing directly will cause choking; first, cover the rupture with the inner membrane of an egg, then apply the dressing, which will prevent choking. If only one side of the trachea is ruptured, recovery takes over a month; if both sides are ruptured, recovery takes two months. Treatment according to this method is appropriate.
