In women, there are cases where menstruation begins immediately upon sexual intercourse, resembling a sudden severe hemorrhage (blood flooding). People assume that the uterus and ovaries have been injured, and the bleeding is triggered by the act of intercourse. However, who would know that this is actually due to the uterus and Blood Sea being excessively hot and thus failing to maintain stability?
The uterus is located below the uterus-ovaries complex, while the Blood Sea is located above it. The Blood Sea refers to the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel). If the Chong Mai is too cold, blood will be deficient; if the Chong Mai is too hot, blood will boil and rush recklessly. The disease of sudden severe hemorrhage (blood flooding) is precisely caused by excessive heat in the Chong Mai. However, since the cause is heat in the Chong Mai, one might expect continuous bleeding without cessation. Why does it only start when sexual intercourse occurs? Is the Liver Wood unaffected? When the Spleen is healthy, it can control blood; when the Liver is balanced, it can store blood. Before entering into sexual activity, the Ministerial Fire (Xiang Huo) and Sovereign Fire (Jun Huo) remain quiet and still. Although the Chong Mai alone may be hot, the blood does not rush outward. Once the stimulus of sexual intercourse arises, the uterus opens wide, the Ministerial Fire moves, attracting heat with heat, seeking similarity with similarity, stirring up together to agitate the essence chamber. This causes the Blood Sea to overflow with an unstoppable momentum. The Liver desires to store blood but cannot; the Spleen desires to control blood but fails. Therefore, menstrual blood arrives following the stimulation, responding as swiftly as an echo. This is solely a disease caused by Fire. The treatment method must involve nourishing Yin and descending Fire, to clear the Blood Sea and harmonize the uterus. Then, a lifelong ailment can be cured within half a year. However, abstinence from sexual desire for three months is mandatory before proceeding.
Prescribe Qing Hai Wan (Clear the Sea Pill).
Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 1 jin, steamed nine times), Shan Zhu Yu (Corni Fructus, 10 liang, steamed), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 10 liang, stir-fried), Mu Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex, 10 liang), Bei Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Fructus, 2 liang, stir-fried), Mai Dong Rou (Ophiopogonis Tuber, 10 liang), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 jin, stir-fried with earth), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 jin, stir-fried with wine), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi, 2 liang), Di Gu Pi (Lycii Cortex, 10 liang), Gan Sang Ye (Mori Folium, 1 jin), Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix, 1 jin), Sha Shen (Glehniae Radix or Adenophorae Radix, 10 liang), Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis, 10 liang).
These fourteen herbs are each ground into fine powder, mixed together, and formed into pills the size of paulownia seeds using refined honey. Take five qian morning and evening, washed down with plain boiled water. Full recovery will occur within half a year. This formula tonifies Yin without causing floating Yang, and astringes blood without the bitterness of cold-natured drugs. Day by day it seems insufficient, but month by month the surplus accumulates. It subtly transforms and seizes the pathogen, cooling the uterus so that the Blood Sea naturally stabilizes. If one does not investigate the root and merely treats the branch, using only powders such as ash from hair, alum, charcoalized Coptidis Rhizoma, and Chinese gall to treat the hidden areas externally, fear that the more astringent it becomes, the more it flows, ultimately leading to ruin. Can one not be cautious!
Marginal Note: In cases of sudden severe hemorrhage (blood flooding), it is most suitable to abstain from sex and avoid the bedroom. Unfortunately, young people are often greedy for desire, so medication often fails. If after three months the flooding stops and the illness heals, but sexual activity remains unregulated, the illness will surely recur. Over time, it will become consumptive disease (Lao). Be careful!
