Pediatric vomiting due to deficiency often arises from weak Stomach Qi, which fails to digest and transform milk and food, thereby causing this syndrome. Its manifestations include mental fatigue, pulsation of the fontanelle, eyes remaining open during sleep, spontaneous diarrhea without thirst, and frequent vomiting. The ancient method primarily prescribes Dingchen Sijunzi Tang (Dingchen Four Gentlemen Decoction), comprising Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Chao Baizhu (Stir-fried Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), with Wei Jiang (Baked Ginger) as a guide drug.
[True's Note] For pediatric vomiting caused by deficiency, simply use Chao Dangshen (Stir-fried Codonopsis Radix) 3g, Chao Yuzhu (Stir-fried Atractylodis Rhizoma) 4.5g, Fuling (Poria) 4.5g, Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 1.5g, Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) 2.4g, with two slices of Wei Jiang (Baked Ginger) as a guide drug.
Children who are usually robust may occasionally experience stagnation, leading to chest and abdominal distension and fullness, constipation or difficult urination, epigastric hardness and pain, thirst with a desire to drink cold liquids, and vomit that is predominantly sour and foul-smelling. The ancient method primarily prescribes Sanyi Chengqi Tang (Three-One Purging Decoction), comprising Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Sheng Dahuang (Raw Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma), Chao Zhishi (Stir-fried Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root), Nongpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), with Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) as a guide drug.
[True's Note] For pediatric vomiting caused by excess, simply use You Nongpu (Oil-processed Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) 2.4g, Xiao Zhishi (Small Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 2.4g, Fei Huashi (Flown Talcum) 3g, Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) 1.5g, Xuanmingfen (Mirabilite) 3g, with ten stems of Dengxin (Junci Medulla) and one tablespoon of Sheng Baimi (Raw White Honey) as guide drugs.
If children overeat raw or cold foods, or if the nursing mother exposes herself to wind and cold, allowing cold qi to enter the breast milk, and the child drinks it, cold vomiting results. Its manifestations include vomiting in the evening what was eaten in the morning, undigested milk and food, vomitus that is neither foul nor sour, cold extremities, and pale face and lips. Treatment should focus on warming the middle and stopping vomiting.
For Stomach Cold, the ancient method primarily prescribes Jiangju San (Ginger and Tangerine Peel Powder), comprising Baijiang (White Ginger) 3g, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 30g, Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 3g, ground into fine powder. Take 3g per dose, mixed with warm Jujube Decoction.
For severe cold, the ancient method primarily prescribes Dingyu Lizhong Tang (Dingyu Lizhong Decoction), which is the base formula of Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) plus Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) and Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus).
[True's Note] For pediatric vomiting caused by cold, simply use Zhi Chuanpu (Processed Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) 3g, Guang Chenpi (Guang Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 4.5g, Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) 1.5g, Bei Ganjiang (Northern Dried Ginger) 1.5g, Zhi Gancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) 1.5g, with one small red jujube as a guide drug. For severe cold, add Yitang (Maltose) 3g.
The syndrome of pediatric heat vomiting may result from children overeating fried foods, or from the nursing mother consuming rich and heavy flavors, leading to heat accumulation in the Stomach. This causes immediate vomiting after eating, thirst with a desire for cold drinks, vomiting of sour saliva, fever, red lips, and dark yellow urine. The ancient method primarily prescribes Jiawei Wendan Tang (Modified Warm Gallbladder Decoction), comprising Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Chao Zhishi (Stir-fried Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root), Zhuru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma stir-fried with ginger juice), with Dengxin (Junci Medulla) as a guide drug.
[True's Note] For pediatric vomiting caused by heat, clearing heat should be the primary approach. Although the formula is named Wendan Tang (Warm Gallbladder Decoction), the herbs are not inherently very warm. However, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) are considered too drying. Therefore, simply use Xian Zhuru (Fresh Bambusae Caulis in Taenia) 4.5g, Fuling (Poria) 4.5g, Xiao Zhishi (Small Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 1.5g, Chao Huanglian (Stir-fried Coptidis Rhizoma) 0.9g, Shu Shigao (Prepared Gypsum Fibrosum) 4.5g, Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) 1.5g, with ten drops of Zhuli (Bamboo Sap) and ten stems of Dengxin (Junci Medulla) as guide drugs.
