First, tap the incisors to produce a slight sound, then tap the molars to produce a loud sound. The *Zhen Gao* (True Revelations) states: Tapping teeth serves to alert the various deities within the body; if the deities do not scatter, ghostly qi cannot invade.
The *Taishang Sanguan Jing* (Scripture of the Supreme Three Passes) records: One should frequently use hands to press the eyes, near the two acupoints adjacent to the nose. Practice while holding the breath, and stop when the qi flows smoothly, repeating this cycle. Consistent practice allows the eyes to see clearly with great detail. It also states: After completing daoyin exercises, press the four corners around the eyes thirty-six times to bring forth light in vision; this is the method of gathering and focusing the spirit of the eyes. Long-term practice enables one to perceive spiritual entities.
Stand the palms of both hands vertically and rub them until they become hot like fire, stopping when a scent resembling sulfur appears. Open the eyes and steam/warm the eyeballs several times.
The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) states: Frequently press the small acupoint behind the eyebrows thirty-six times; after one year, one can write at night. This can also be practiced secretly at the Renzhong point (GV26), without revealing the method to others. The small acupoint behind the eyebrow is the mansion of the Upper Yuan Liuhe, primarily responsible for resolving dizziness in the eyes, harmonizing Ying (nutritive) essence and light, and enhancing the clarity of the pupil. Preserving and refining the pupils is the method used by True Persons during sitting and rising, also known as the "Changju" (Constant Dwelling) method. The True Proverb says: If you wish to write at night, you must cultivate Changju. The reason True Persons can see sideways and reach everywhere, illuminating the eight distant directions, is truly due to the brilliance of the Changju method. The *Ziwei Furen Gao* (Admonition of Lady Ziwei) states: Look up to harmonize with Tianzhen (Heavenly Truth), and bow down to press Shanyuan (Mountain Source). Tianzhen refers to the inner corners of the two eyebrows, and Shanyuan refers to the Renzhong point (GV26) below the nose. The inner corners of the eyebrows are the bridges for clear vision, and Tianzhen is the upper chamber for guiding spiritual energy.
The *Xiaomo Jing* (Scripture of Eliminating Demons) states: The nose should be pressed on its left and right sides frequently, with no limit on the number of times, to calm the person's qi. This is called irrigating the Central Peak (Zhongyue), named in the Imperial Scripture.
Lady Ziwei said: Bowing down to press Shanyuan refers to the root of the Renzhong point below the nose, located in the small valley beneath the nose. During the time of Duke Zhuang of Chu, Song Laizi, the market administrator, often swept the entire market and sang frequently: "The Heavenly Court emits dual splendor, Shanyuan blocks yin evils; pressing Tianma in the early morning, arriving at the home of Taiqing. The True Person has no hidden worries, and thus extinguishes a hundred evils." Singing this song constantly, he begged for food in the market, but no one understood his song. This beggar was Gongxi Yue Zhenren Feng Yanshou, a historian during the reign of King Xuan of Zhou. Hands are called Tianma (Heavenly Horse), and the nose is called Shanyuan (Mountain Source). Whenever passing dangerous roads or between temples, if one harbors doubts or taboos in the heart, first reverse the tongue inward and swallow saliva once or twice. Upon completion, use three fingers of the second joint of the left hand to pinch the root of Renzhong below the two nostrils and the inner edge of the septum hole. The edge of the nasal septum is called Shanyuan, also known as Guijing (Ghost Well), Shenchi (Spirit Pool), and Huntai (Soul Terrace). Pressing Shanyuan with the hand closes the Ghost Well; lightly touching Shenchi scatters the roots of evil; approaching Huntai ensures Yuzhen guards the pass. Thus, the spiritual root is stirred, heavenly beasts come to guard, a thousand spirits are subdued, and none can interfere with my qi; this is the result of natural law. Shanyuan below the nose is the martial passage of the whole body, the hub where true and evil energies intersect. Those who guard the True Qi can restrain all evils through their own regulation and control.
