Treatment for difficult labor lasting one or two days (if the fetus does not descend, taking this medicine will naturally cause rotation and delivery):
Zhiqiao (Bitter Orange Peel, 2 qian, stir-fried with bran), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome, 1.5 qian, stir-fried), Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.7 qian), Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, 2 qian), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 3 qian), Zisuye (Perilla Leaf, 0.8 qian), Dafupi (Areca Peel, 1.5 qian, washed with ginger juice).
Decoct the above ingredients in two zhong of water until reduced to one zhong. When lower back and abdominal pain are severe, take orally in one dose, and delivery will occur immediately. It is particularly beneficial to take one or two doses at the end of the ninth month or beginning of the tenth month of pregnancy. This formula has been used repeatedly with effectiveness.
Treatment for dystocia, used repeatedly with rapid and miraculous effects:
Bimazi (Castor Seed, 14 grains, shelled), Zhusha (Cinnabar, ground separately), Xionghuang (Realgar, ground separately, each 2.5 qian), Shetui (Snake Slough, one whole piece).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with rice porridge paste to form pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill per dose. At the time of labor, first wash the area below the navel with Sichuan pepper soup, insert one pill into the umbilicus, cover with several layers of yellow paper, and secure with soft silk. Remove it urgently after delivery; otherwise, prolapse of the intestines may occur. One pill can be used three times. If intestinal prolapse occurs by mistake (apply this medicine to the Baihui acupoint on the top of the head immediately, which will have a miraculous retraction effect).
In cases where the placenta fails to descend after childbirth, and lochia attacks the heart causing coma and fainting, if not rescued within moments, the mother's life is endangered. This formula can be prepared in advance for emergency use. It is truly a divine prescription for saving lives in emergencies. I dare not keep it secret, so I publish it.
Ganqi (Resin of Toxicodendron vernicifluum, 2 qian, powdered), Da Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, one piece, processed, skin and umbilical scar removed, powdered).
Mix the above two ingredients evenly. Externally, use Dahuang (Rhubarb Root) 5 qian powdered, decocted with wine and vinegar into a paste, then mixed with the previous powders to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take thirty pills per dose, administered with light vinegar soup. (Administer three doses continuously within one shichen [two hours]; the placenta will descend immediately, with miraculous effect).
For placental retention when no medicine is available at hand, use Xiaomingyan (Mirabilite) 3 qian powdered, mixed with urine from a healthy boy, heated and taken orally; the placenta will descend. This also treats transverse or breech presentation. Additionally, fry the nails of the woman's hands and feet until yellow, grind into powder, and administer one chi (small spoonful) with wine. Have a strong midwife lift the parturient woman and press down from the heart area using a bamboo tube; repeat several times until the placenta descends.
The symptoms manifest as the pregnant woman experiencing labor pains but refusing to stretch or walk, often bending her waist and lying down enduring the pain. The fetus cannot rotate in the womb. If the hand emerges first, it is called transverse presentation; if the foot emerges first, it is called breech presentation. If not rescued within moments, both mother and child will die. This formula acts instantly.
Wushe tui (Black Mamba Slough, one piece), Chantui (Cicada Slough, fourteen pieces, free of dirt, those from willow trees are best), Xueyu (Scorched Hair, one hao; fetal hair is better).
Burn each ingredient to ash while preserving its properties, grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with wine. Administer two consecutive doses; lie supine for a moment, and the infant will descend smoothly.
Another method: Use a small needle to prick the sole of the infant's foot three to five times, then immediately apply a small amount of burnt salt to the pricked area. The infant will promptly deliver smoothly, and both mother and child will survive.
For treatment of blood syncope with coma approaching death: Urgently take a large handful of Chinese chives, cut finely, place in a narrow-mouthed bottle, and soak with boiling hot sour vinegar. Place the bottle mouth against the patient's nose and mouth, allowing the chive vapor to penetrate directly through the meridians; once blood circulation resumes, consciousness returns. For mild cases, burning old lacquerware to smoke the nose is also effective.
