Treats the recurrence of pathogenic Qi in winter, leading to the flourishing of Foot-Taiyang Bladder Water and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Water.
The Zi (Child) organ can cause the Mu (Mother) organ to become full; Hand-Taiyin Lung excess reversely insults Earth, causing Fire and Wood organs to suffer from pathogens.
Obstruction and pain in the waist, back, chest, and diaphragm; frequent sneezing; salivation in the mouth; tearing from the eyes; continuous flow of turbid nasal discharge; or polyps resulting in loss of smell and taste; cough with phlegm foam. Upper body heat like fire, lower body cold like ice. Paroxysmal headache; sensation of fire in the eyes; blurred vision; tinnitus and deafness. Head and nose/mouth sensitive to wind and cold; preference for sunlight; restless sleep at night; constant sensation of phlegm obstruction; blockage in the diaphragm and throat; loss of taste; contraction, urgency, and pain in both hypochondriac regions; loose teeth; inability to chew. Sweating in the yin region; coldness of the anterior yin. Gait is unsteady and tilted; difficulty in daily activities; heat in the palms; wind-bi numbness. Frequent urination, abundant during the day and frequent at night; yawning; shortness of breath and panting; insufficient Qi and weak respiration; sudden and uncontrollable incontinence. In women: leukorrhea; severe pain in the vagina radiating to the heart; darkened complexion. In men: testicular retraction pulling into the heart and abdomen; pain in the yin organs; face color resembling red earth. Reduced appetite; irregular bowel movements; mental restlessness and cholera-like symptoms; rebellious Qi, internal urgency, and abdominal pain; pale skin color; passing residual gas but inability to strain; or borborygmus; tendon tension below the knees; severe pain in the scapula.
These are all due to Cold-Water Qi returning, becoming the enemy of Fire and Earth.
Gan Jiang (Prepared Rhizoma Zingiberis, powdered, 1 qian 3 fen); Chai Hu (Crushed to bean size, 1 qian); Qiang Huo (Crushed, 1 qian); Gan Cao (Crushed, 8 fen); Ben Cao (Rhizoma Ligustici, 8 fen); Sheng Ma (Crushed, 7 fen); Ban Xia (Washed in decoction, 7 fen); Dang Gui Shen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis root body, soaked in wine and crushed, 6 fen); Fang Feng (Crushed to bean size, 5 fen); Yu Li Ren (Semen Pruni, soaked in decoction, skin removed, ground into paste, added to medicine for simultaneous decoction, 5 fen); Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 5 fen); Fu Zi (Prepared Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, skin and navel removed, 2 fen); Bai Kui Hua (White Sunflower Flower, 5 pieces, heart removed, finely cut).
All above medicines are combined as one dose. Add five zhan of water, decoct until two zhan remain. Add Cao Dou Kou (Fructus Cardamomi Rotundus wrapped in flour, roasted until flour is cooked, skin removed and dried, 1 qian) and Huang Qi (Radix Astragali, 1 qian) and Ju Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 5 fen). Decoct again until one zhan remains. Then add the following medicines:
Zhi Ke (Fructus Aurantii, 5 fen); Huang Bo (Cortex Phellodendri, wine-soaked, 3 fen); Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, wine-washed, 3 fen); Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, washed in decoction, 2 fen).
The above four ingredients are soaked separately in fresh water for one day in advance. Additionally, take Chuan Xiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong, fine powder, 3 fen), Man Jing Zi (Fructus Viticis, 3 fen), and Hua Xi Xin (Herba Asari, 2 fen).
Soak these three ingredients separately in half a large zhan of fresh water for one day. Meanwhile, decoct the main medicines (Huang Bo, etc.) to yield one zhan. Do not filter the dregs. Add the soaked medicines to the decoction. Re-heat on fire and decoct until one large zhan remains. Filter the dregs. Take slightly warm on an empty stomach.
It also treats conditions such as biting cheeks, lips, and tongue, and stiffness of the tongue root, with miraculous effect. It is advisable to consume mutton and foods with rich flavors. Generally, for those with Cold in the Kidney and Bladder meridians and insufficiency of Yuan Qi, this formula is suitable and highly effective. Take it every three to five days between the new moon and full moon. If the condition is urgent, take it without regard to time.
The treatment methods have been tested. Students should seek their precise meaning through understanding. By analogical reasoning, their applications will be inexhaustible. I suffered from long-term Spleen-Stomach decline, with half-loss of hearing and vision. This was Yin flourishing attacking Yang, causing upper Qi deficiency, insufficient spirit, and a wiry pulse, all indicating Yang Qi weakness hiding within Yin. In the sixth and seventh months of the Gui-Mao year, continuous rain and cold persisted for over a month. Many people suffered from diarrhea and dysentery because excessive dampness leads to the five types of diarrhea. One day, my body felt heavy with joint pain, accompanied by three episodes of diarrhea with a bearing-down sensation, while urination was obstructed. Reflecting on the *Nei Jing*, which states: "For those below, draw them out and exhaust them," the method is first to promote urination. Also, for treating various diarrheas with difficult urination, one must first separate and promote urination. It also says: "To treat dampness without promoting urination is not the correct method." The method should be to promote urination using bland and permeating agents. Alas! The methods of the Sages are recorded in texts, but what is not fully stated can be sought through understanding. Now, the external pathogenic Cold-Dampness is severe, entering from outside to inside rapidly. If bland-permeating agents are used to promote urination, although the disease may resolve immediately, this is lowering again and lowering, further benefiting Yin and doubly exhausting Yang. Thus, Yang Qi is further weakened, and Spirit becomes more deficient, while Yin becomes stronger and Yang weaker. Therefore, using Yang-raising medicines is appropriate. Qiang Huo, Du Huo, Chai Hu, and Sheng Ma each 2 qian; Fang Feng 0.5 qian; Zhi Gan Cao 0.5 qian. Crush together, add four zhan of water, decoct to one zhan, filter, and take hot. One dose cures it. The general principle states: "For Cold-Dampness excess, assist Wind to pacify it." It also says: "Raise that which has sunk." This cure is achieved because Yang Qi rises. This is straightening the bent. The methods of the Sages can be inferred by analogy; knowing one case allows knowing a hundred.
