Wine is of great heat and toxicity, its flavor and qi are purely yang, and it is a formless substance. If injury occurs from it, one should only employ dispersing methods; sweating will lead to recovery, which is the most excellent method. Secondly, promoting urination is preferable. These two approaches eliminate dampness from both upper and lower aspects, leaving no room for wine-induced disease. However, those suffering from wine-related ailments today often take "Jiu Zheng Wan" (Alcohol Syndrome Pill), a formula of great heat, to purge downwards, or use Qian Niu Zi (Pharbitis Seed) and Da Huang (Rhubarb Root) for purgation. This treats an illness of formless Yuan Qi (Primal Energy) by wrongly purging有形 Yin Blood (Substantial Yin Fluids), a grave error! Wine's nature is greatly hot, already damaging Yuan Qi; to further heavily purge it not only depletes Kidney Water (Kidney Yin) but also renders both True Yin (Essential Yin) and substantial Yin Blood deficient. Consequently, Yin Blood becomes increasingly deficient, True Water grows weaker, Yang Toxic Heat flares up wildly, and Yin Fire (Deficiency Heat) increases. This is termed the exhaustion of Yuan Qi, with the Seven Spirits (Shen, Hun, Po, Yi, Zhi, and their associated mental/spiritual functions) lacking foundation, shortening life; otherwise, deficiency diseases arise. The *Jin Gui Yao Lue* (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet) states: "If Ji Dan (Jaundice due to Alcohol) is treated with purgatives, it eventually transforms into Hei Dan (Black Jaundice)." One must strictly avoid this taboo! It is better to allow dampness to be dispersed from above and below, using Ge Hua Jie Cheng Tang (Pueraria Flower Decoction to Relieve Intoxication) as the primary treatment.
Bai Dou Kou Ren (Cardamom Seed), Suo Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit), Ge Hua (Pueraria Flower) (each 5 qian); Gan Sheng Jiang (Dried Ginger), Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven, stir-fried until yellow), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) (each 2 qian); Ju Pi (Tangerine Peel, white pith removed), Zhu Ling (Polyporus), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root, radix removed), Bai Fu Ling (White Poria) (each 1.5 qian); Mu Xiang (Costus Root) (0.5 qian); Lian Hua Qing Pi (Green Tangerine Peel of Lotus variety, pulp removed) (0.3 qian).
Grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder, weigh and mix uniformly. Take 3 qian bi per dose, mixed with warm water. A slight sweat indicates the wine disease has been expelled. This remedy is used only out of necessity; one should not rely on it to drink daily. Due to its pungent and spicy nature, occasional use for wine intoxication does not harm Yuan Qi, because it counteracts the wine pathogen. However, frequent use damages natural lifespan.
For treating injuries caused by drinking horse milk, cow/sheep cheese water, and all cold substances.
Shen Qu (Medicated Leaven, stir-fried until yellow, 1 liang); Fu Ling (Poria, 7 qian); Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed, stir-fried until fragrant); Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome) (each 5 qian); Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber, washed with decoction); Gan Sheng Jiang (Dried Ginger) (each 3 qian); Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root); Hong Hua (Safflower) (each 2 qian).
Grind all ingredients together into an extremely fine powder. Take 3 qian bi per dose, mixed with warm water, taken before meals.
