The rabbit belongs to Metal in the Five Elements, inheriting the essence of Taiyin (the Moon), thus conceiving by gazing at the moon. Rabbits are edible in late autumn because the Qi of Metal is fully developed at this time. The meat is sweet and pungent in flavor, cool in nature, and non-toxic. Due to its sweet and cool properties, it can tonify the Middle Jiao and benefit Qi. However, its nature is cold and Yin; therefore, individuals with Yang deficiency and no internal heat should not consume it, as excessive intake damages Yuan Qi and causes impotence. It is edible from August to October; consuming it in other months harms the Shen (Spirit). The skull treats epilepsy and dizziness/headache. This is because the Liver corresponds to Wind-Wood; when Wood Qi is excessive, it causes shaking and vertigo. As the rabbit belongs to Metal and its skull is located superiorly, it possesses pure Metal Qi, which can subdue Wood pathogenic factors, treating vertigo, headache, and reversing epilepsy. The Liver governs clear vision because it opens into the eyes; the rabbit’s eyes do not blink and remain clear because its Liver Qi is sufficient, so it treats dim vision. He Jian stated: Rabbit liver clarifies vision because its Qi is abundant, thereby supplementing deficiency. Rabbit brain is the most refined essence of marrow, warm and lubricating in nature, thus serving as a sacred remedy for applying to cracked frostbite and for inducing labor or facilitating delivery. Rabbit blood is salty and cold, capable of cooling blood, invigorating blood, and resolving fetal heat toxicity; it also facilitates easy delivery. Rabbit feces, known as "Wanyue Sha" (Moon-Playing Sand), result from the rabbit eating *Euphorbia lathyris* seed (Gujingcao), absorbing Taiyin essence, and ingesting herbs that brighten the eyes; thus, it treats eye membranes, consumptive disease, five types of infant malnutrition (Wugan), hemorrhoids and fistulas, and detoxifies/parasites. Rabbit blood pills, taken by children, prevent smallpox lifelong or reduce severity. The method involves taking a live rabbit on the first day of the twelfth lunar month, collecting blood, mixing it with buckwheat flour, adding a small amount of Cinnabar (Zhusha) and Realgar (Xionghuang) 4-5 fen, drying into pill sizes of mung beans, and administering 2-3 pills dissolved in breast milk to newborns; the appearance of red spots all over the body indicates efficacy. However, feeding rabbit meat to growing children is particularly beneficial. Rabbit skull treats epilepsy during pregnancy and stops dizziness/headache. Rabbit meat is suitable in autumn/winter but contraindicated in spring/summer; it treats damp-bi and heat, relieves dryness from Dan-Shi minerals, tonifies the Middle, benefits Qi, stops thirst, and strengthens the Spleen. Pregnant women consuming it may give birth to children with cleft lips. Rabbit brain treats frostbite, induces labor, and facilitates delivery. Rabbit liver treats dim vision, restoring clarity. Rabbit blood resolves fetal heat toxicity; added to smallpox-thinning formulas, it aids easy and rapid delivery. Rabbit feces, named Wanyue Sha, treat smallpox ulcers inside the eyes and hemorrhoidal bleeding. Burned rabbit fur/powder taken with wine treats retained placenta postpartum and critical conditions caused by residual blood rushing to the Heart, providing immediate relief. Main Indications (Integrating Smallpox and Rash): Rabbit skull shares the functions of the meat, resolving smallpox toxin; those from the twelfth lunar month are best. Contraindicated with white chicken meat. Rabbit feces remove corneal opacities after smallpox recovery; grind into powder and take with sugar water.
