All metallic and fire toxins are eliminated; it has a pungent flavor, cool qi, and is non-toxic. Its pungency and coolness can disperse wind-heat, thus treating red eyes with nebula (corneal opacity). In women, dystocia (abnormal labor position) occurs due to blood and qi stagnation blocking the pathways; heart and abdominal pain also result from the accumulation of blood and qi; amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) is caused by the closure of the uterine vessels; the five types of strangury (dysuria) arise from heat congestion in the Chong and Ren meridians; traumatic injuries involve damage and stagnation of blood and qi. This medicine can penetrate the yin aspect of the Lower Jiao, dissipate stagnant blood and qi, and open blocked pathways, thereby treating all these conditions.
Ancient copper coins: Soaked in brine for use; treats wind-induced red eyes, removes nebula, and brightens vision. Quenched in vinegar after heating: used to treat dystocia, heart and abdominal pain, amenorrhea, and the five types of strangury.
Iron rust, also known as Iron Coat. It obtains the essence of Metal qi, thus having a pungent and bitter flavor, and cold nature. Malignant sores, scabies, and tinea are generated by damp-heat; spider bites and venomous insect stings injure the blood. The pungent and bitter flavors can drain damp-heat, and the cold nature can resolve toxic heat, hence it is indicated for these conditions. Applying it to carbuncles (hard, painful skin infections) is also highly effective, as carbuncles originate from wind-heat in the Liver meridian; this substance belongs to Metal and can subdue Wood. Iron flakes: Pungent and sweet flavor, neutral qi, non-toxic. Originating from iron, it retains the image of Metal. Its heavy weight suggests descending properties, and its behavior when heated suggests dispersing fire outward. It can further pacify the Liver, clear heat, and address various heat-related sores and ulcers affecting the chest, diaphragm, and skin.
Raw iron: Must be processed [text incomplete], mixed with coarse red juice, reheated until red, then decocted in wine or water. For rectal prolapse and bear or tiger bites, wash daily with the decoction. For blood coagulation in joints due to beating, take with wine occasionally. It can also be taken for deafness; if combined with inserting magnetite into the ear, it becomes effective. Decoction of wrought iron swallowed strengthens muscles and increases pain tolerance. Steel removes chest and diaphragm fullness, food stagnation, and treats metal wounds with irritability and internal heat. Iron flakes are the scale particles beaten off an anvil while iron is red-hot; decocted and taken to treat various sores and toxic heat. [Text incomplete] on the skin removes chest heat, stops irritability, and calms mania. Iron essence: Dust-like particles flying from the furnace; those that are purple, light, and void are excellent. Human dosage treats palpitations and insufficiency of Heart spirit, suitable for pediatric wind-phlegm epilepsy. Iron slurry: Formed by long-term immersion of iron in water, with green powder floating naturally; drinking it resolves various toxins entering the abdomen, including bites from tigers, snakes, and dogs; it treats epilepsy and mania, calms Heart qi, and reduces fever. Iron rust: Appears when wet; for spider bites, grind with vinegar and apply; for malignant sores and scabies, mix with oil and apply to heal. Iron flower powder: Eliminates hundred diseases, calms the spirit, strengthens bone marrow, enhances willpower, expels wind pathogens, nourishes blood and qi, prolongs life, darkens beard and hair, and resists aging. If made into pills or powders, it must be mixed with jujube paste. Needle sand: Powder ground by needle makers; suitable for treating chlorosis (yellowish swelling), must be soaked thoroughly in strong vinegar and boiled dry. Keys: Treats female blood-stasis aphonia; decoct with ginger, vinegar, and urine for consumption. Knife blades: Treat snake venom entering the abdomen; grind with earthy water and swallow. Saw: Soaked in wine; treats accidental swallowing of bamboo or wood into the throat. Axe: Quenched in wine; treats difficult labor where the fetus cannot descend. Lead weight pulled along iron: Used to dispel thief-wind (wind pathogen). Heated red and quenched in wine, drink immediately.
