In the autumn of the Gui-Si year, I obtained the woodblocks for Mr. Lu Dingpu's (Lu Tingzhi) *Lenglu Zashi* from Tongxiang. Having repaired the damaged parts and corrected them, I published it for the world. Mr. Lu was proficient in medicine, and the text contained a considerable amount of knowledge from the Qi-Huang school (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Suspecting that he must have had unique insights into medicine, I sought out his remaining works. In the spring of the Yi-Wei year, I obtained several volumes of *Zaixu Mingyi Leian* (Continued Cases of Famous Physicians), followed by several volumes of *Lenglu Yihua* (Medical Conversations from Lenglu). These were all handwritten manuscripts not yet printed. The *Yi'an* (Cases) is richly collected, sufficient to supplement what Jiang Gao and Wei Zhixiu's works lacked; the *Yihua* focuses specifically on *Bianzheng* (Syndrome Differentiation). Whenever describing a syndrome, it invariably traces the root causes of deficiency and excess, pointing out the pros and cons of physicians' practices. The language is precise and accurate. His preface states that he merely gathered hearsay and observations to express his own thoughts. Alas! Is this easy to say? Believing that the *Yihua* is particularly beneficial to the world, I hurriedly entrusted it to the carvers to be printed on pear and jujube wood, modeled after the pocket-sized editions of Guxiang Studio, for ease of carrying and consulting. On leisure days, I plan to further correct the *Yi'an* and publish it subsequently.
Written in the late winter month of the year Qiangyu-Zuo'e (Guangxu 23rd Year), Pang Yuan of Wucheng.
Lu Dingpu, a scholar of accumulated learning from Tongxiang, excelled in both scholarship and medicine, possessing extraordinary insight. Whenever studying knowledge, he would exhaustively investigate principles to grasp their profound essence, recording notes spontaneously and categorizing them into five volumes titled *Lenglu Yihua*. In the 23rd year of Guangxu, Pang Yuan of Wucheng published it, and it has long been widely praised. In the 5th year of Xianfeng, Mr. Lu had previously written *Lenglu Zashi*, eight volumes, which included a substantial amount of medical knowledge. These were all records of personal insights, precise and valuable. Therefore, they were separately classified and excerpted, with occasional annotations added for clarification, named *Lenglu Yihua Bubian* (Supplement to Medical Conversations from Lenglu), and appended to the end to make the work more complete. Recently, while compiling the *Zhongguo Yixue Dacheng* (Great Compendium of Chinese Medicine), the entire main and supplementary texts were organized and included in the series of medical conversations to facilitate wider dissemination, offering a minor but meaningful contribution to our medical tradition. Recorded by Bingzhang in the third month of the Bing-Zi year.
