Since ancient times, there has been no specialized book dedicated to the treatment of Ding sores (furuncles/carbuncles). After the Southern Song Dynasty moved south, although works like *Jiuji Xianfang* (Miraculous Prescriptions for Emergencies) recorded the techniques of surgeons and discussed Ding sores in great detail, the original texts and the authors' names have unfortunately been lost. Due to the lack of specialized books, there were no specialized experts. Commoners or travelers who suddenly developed flesh swellings (referring to early-stage Ding sores resembling flesh lumps) often died because they could not summon a doctor in time and mistakenly violated dietary taboos. Even if someone capable of treatment was available, without grasping the essential principles, how could one, despite possessing secret transmissions of the Mingtang acupoint charts, rescue patients from critical conditions in an instant?
Mr. Zhang Rongting from Wu Men obtained a manuscript copy from the Ci Ying family while traveling in Zhejiang. Later, he acquired two printed editions from other sources. He compared their differences and traced their origins, finding that all methods followed the meridians and collaterals. Thus, he deleted redundant content, simplified the material, and combined them into a single book. It begins with key statements, includes general diagrams illustrating each acupoint, organizes treatment methods into mnemonic verses, and appends ointment formulas. The book is titled *Zhi Ding Jiefa* (Quick Methods for Treating Ding Sores).
Mr. Wang Jiansan suffered from a finger Ding sore, which Mr. Zhang Rongting treated successfully. When Mr. Wang requested the book, Mr. Zhang did not keep it secret. Mr. Wang used this book to treat others with consistent efficacy. Subsequently, he added corrections and verifications regarding acupoint methods, wishing to have it printed for wider dissemination, and asked me to write a preface.
I have never been proficient in the art of Qi Bo and Huang Di (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Having read books such as *Suwen* (Basic Questions), I occasionally encountered doubts and attempted to elucidate their meanings. However, having retired to rural life, born in a prosperous age comparable to that of Yao and Shun, I often feel ashamed that my contributions to public welfare are insufficient. Once this book is published, it will enable children and the elderly to be spared from suffering and hardship. Compared to *Jiuji Xianfang*, it truly deserves its reputation. This is not only a great joy for me but also ensures that ancient wisdom will not remain obscured. Hence, this preface.
