For severe cases, take two doses within one day and night. The medicinal effect is considered to have reached when the large and small intestines become unobstructed. Externally: pound Jindongteng stems, flowers, and leaves with a wooden pestle, add a little wine, and apply around the wound, leaving the center open to drain toxic gases. Treats all external carbuncles and internal abscesses, as well as breast abscesses in women; regular consumption promotes interior support and detoxification. Garlic and Soybean Paste Moxibustion draws out toxicity.
Ge Suan Jiu Fa (Garlic-Partitioned Moxibustion Method): First cover the area with wet paper; mark the spot where the paper dries first as the head of the sore. Then take a single clove of garlic, remove both ends, slice the middle to a thickness of 3 fen, place it on the sore, and moxa upon the garlic. Moxa 5 cones, then replace the garlic and continue moxa. If a large sore has multiple heads growing together, pound garlic into a paste, spread on the affected area, and moxa; replace when the garlic spoils. Treats all carbuncles, ulcers, swellings, and toxins with severe pain, no pain, or numbness. If painful, moxa until pain ceases; if painless, moxa until pain arises. The pain dissipates with the fire. This is the method of drawing out stagnant toxicity through contrary treatment, having life-restoring power. If the sore color is white or purple, does not rise, is not very painful, and does not suppurate, moxibustion is most suitable regardless of the duration. Unformed sores will resolve; formed sores will have their momentum checked.
Douchi Bing (Fermented Soybean Cake): Powder Dan Douchi (Sojae Semen Preparatum), mix with saliva or mouthwash to form cakes the size of a coin, 0.5 fen thick. Place on the affected area and moxa upon the cake; replace when dry. Treats hard, non-ulcerated carbuncles and ulcers, non-healing ulcers, and all stubborn malignant sores. Unformed sores resolve; formed sores ulcerate. Ineffectiveness indicates deficiency and exhaustion of blood and qi.
Mulberry and Green Onion Hot Compress dispels wind.
Sangzhi Jiu Fa (Mulberry Branch Moxibustion Method): Treats back carbuncles that do not rise or putrefy. Ignite mulberry branches, blow out the flame, and apply the hot tip to the affected area 3-5 times daily for a short period, until necrotic tissue moves. If necrotic tissue is removed but new flesh grows slowly, moxa the surrounding area. Particularly suitable for yin sores, scrofula, flowing abscesses, and ding sores caused by cold pathogens persisting for a long time. Before ulceration, it draws out toxicity and relieves pain; after ulceration, it supplements yang qi. For yang syndromes with severe swelling and pain, or heaviness like carrying a stone, use at the onset; fluid discharge leads to resolution. For conditions lasting several days, use results in shallow ulceration without suffering.
Congyi Fa (Green Onion Hot Compress Method): Pound raw green onions, stir-fry until hot, frequently compress the affected area, replacing when cool. Treats flowing abscesses, lymphatic nodules, bone carbuncles, and knee鹤膝 (crane-knee deformity). Yinyang San (Yin-Yang Powder): Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra) generates blood, relieves pain, dispels wind; Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) dispels wind, generates flesh, relieves pain; Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) harmonizes qi, moves blood, breaks hardness; Wubeizi (Terminaliae Chebulae Fructus) reduces swelling, generates flesh. Each 2 liang. Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) 3 liang stops wind and moves blood; Zijingpi (Corylopsis Cortex) 5 liang breaks qi, expels blood, reduces swelling. Powder them, mix with green onion wine or vinegar, and apply. Treats carbuncles, ulcers, swellings, and flowing abscesses. This medicine is mild, hence called Yin-Yang.

Jixue San (Chicken Blood Powder): Trim the tip of a rooster's comb slightly, hang it upside down to drip blood onto the sore. Change chickens until blood runs out, usually no more than 5-6 chickens. Pain stops, toxicity dissipates, and the sore heals itself. Internally, take 6 liang of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), divided into six doses, decocted and taken throughout the day. Treats carbuncles and ulcers belonging to Yin syndromes.

Dan Badou Gao (Single Croton Ointment): Stir-fry Badou (Crotonis Fructus) until scorched, grind into paste. Prepare immediately before use to prevent drying. If the center of a back carbuncle has dead flesh, applying causes putrefaction; if not dead, it generates flesh. For malignant sores or ding sores that do not heal for a long time with deep toxic roots, dip a paper twist in the medicine and insert it; once the root is removed, it heals. If yuan qi is weak, or stomach qi is damaged by purging, causing toxic gases to scatter and central flesh to die, urgently take major tonifying agents. Apply medicine in the center for 3-4 cun. After 5-6 days, the boundary between red/dark and normal skin cracks like a knife cut, and the center gradually ulcerates. If spleen qi is severely deficient and flesh feels no pain, urgently tonify spleen and stomach; flesh often regenerates.
Dan Xiaofen Gao (Single Potato Starch Ointment): Use aged potato starch (older is better), any amount. Stir-fry in a pot. Initially sticky, then dry, turning yellow-black. Cool, powder, mix with old rice water to appropriate consistency, store in porcelain jar. For all carbuncles, back carbuncles, and unnamed swellings that are hot but not broken, measure the swelling size. Spread on thick paper, cut a hole in the center to drain toxic gases, paste on. It feels cold like water, pain stops immediately. Soon, itching occurs, do not peel off. Eventually, swelling and toxicity dissipate naturally with miraculous effect.
Dan Nuomi Gao (Single Glutinous Rice Ointment): Select 3 sheng of glutinous rice, soak in cold water in a porcelain basin for 49 days before Dragon Boat Festival. Change water twice daily, gently rinse without breaking grains. On Dragon Boat Festival, take out, place in silk bag, air dry. Take a small amount, stir-fry until black, powder, mix with cold water to form paste. Apply to wound size, wrap with silk cloth, until healed. If metal wounds accidentally contact raw water and suppurate, wrap immediately with this medicine; swelling subsides until healed. For carbuncles/toxic sores with initial cheek swelling, apply to neck and swollen area. If bamboo/wood splinters penetrate flesh, apply before sleep; the splinter emerges in the medicine the next day. For swollen toxins, change when dry, keeping it moist is ideal.
