After ingesting cold-damp substances such as watermelon, cold water, and cow's milk, use Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 2 qian, Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata) 0.5 qian, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) 1 qian, Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) 1 piece, and Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata cum Melle) 1 qian.
After ingesting damp-heat substances such as mutton, wheat flour products, and horse milk, use Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 1 qian, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 1 qian, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 2 qian, Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata cum Melle) 0.5 qian, and Zhi Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix Preparata) 1 qian.
For the above two conditions, if accompanied by abdominal pain, add Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1 qian; if there is epigastric fullness and stuffiness, add Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 1 qian; if there is abdominal distension, add Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) 0.5 qian; if there is chest discomfort, add Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus) 0.5 qian; if there is cold in the abdomen, add Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 3 fen; if there is thirst, add Baifuling (Poria) 1 qian; if there is a sensation of tightness in the abdomen, add Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) 1 qian; if the limbs feel heavy, add Zhi Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma Preparata) 1 qian; if injured by anger, add Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 0.5 qian; if injured by worry, add Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus) 0.5 qian; if injured by excessive joy, add Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) 0.5 qian; if injured by sorrow, add Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 0.5 qian. Generally speaking, for injuries caused by cold substances, Bidou (Crotonis Fructus) serves as the sovereign drug; for injuries caused by heat substances, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) serves as the sovereign drug. Carefully identify the syndrome and add auxiliary drugs accordingly. These can be prepared as pills or powders.
For sudden onset of redness and swelling of the eyes, use Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Xiangbaizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Zhi Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix Preparata) twice processed, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). If the sclera is red, use Baidoukou (Cardamomi Rotundus Fructus) in small amounts, with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) as the principal drug. (To remove corneal opacities, use Gujinghua (Evodiae Flos), Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum), Qumai (Dianthi Herba), and Qinpi (Fraxini Cortex) washed/decocted. To nourish eye blood, use Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos). To improve vision, use Ruiren (Prunus Armeniacae Semen), Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), and Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum).) For any sudden redness and swelling of the eyes, use Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) and Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) as sovereign drugs to drain fire; use Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) as auxiliary drugs to harmonize the blood; and combine them with channel-specific guiding herbs. For dim vision, use Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) and Dangguigen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) as sovereign drugs, with Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Gan Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) as auxiliary drugs.
For dysentery accompanied by abdominal pain, use Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) as sovereign drugs, with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) as auxiliary drugs. Differentiate treatment based on whether blood appears before or after stool, referring to the theory of Heat in the Three Burners. In cases of diarrhea and dysentery with white urine, non-astringent urination indicates Cold, while red and astringent urination indicates Heat. Another method states: Undigested food in stool with unchanged color, foul-smelling vomiting and diarrhea, clear and cold excretions, clear and white non-astringent urine, cool body without thirst, and fine and faint pulse indicate a Cold syndrome. Although undigested food is present, if the stool color changes from white, accompanied by irritability and thirst, red-yellow possibly astringent urine, it indicates a Heat syndrome. If food is digested normally, regardless of other symptoms or color changes, it is considered a Heat syndrome. There is no case of Cold diarrhea where food is digested normally. For diarrhea and dysentery, use Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); for watery diarrhea with undigested rice and grain, use Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix); for mild food stagnation, slightly increase Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma); for abdominal distension, use Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex); for thirst, use Baifuling (Poria); for abdominal pain, use Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) as main agents; in winter, use half Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) and half Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma); in summer, use Zhi Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix Preparata). If pus and blood appear first followed by stool, use Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) as sovereign drug and Diyü (Sanguisorbae Radix) as auxiliary; if pus and blood are mixed, use Zhi Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma Preparata); if stool appears first followed by pus and blood, use Erzhi Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix Preparata twice), all guided by Dangguishao (Angelicae Sinensis Radix tip), applied according to the upper or lower location. If there is no abdominal pathology, reduce the dose of Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) by half. For physical fatigue, unwillingness to open the eyes, and unwillingness to speak, use Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix) and Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma); for heaviness, use Zhi Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma Preparata). For loss of appetite, use Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Huoxiangye (Agastaches Folium). For tenesmus, use Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) to purge; for rectal heaviness/tenesmus, use Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Huoxiang (Agastaches Rhizoma et Herba), and Binglang (Arecae Semen) to harmonize.
