Chuanxiong (prepared with wine), Jingjie, Baizhi, Jiegeng (stir-fried), Gancao, Huangqin (stir-fried with wine), Chuanbeimu (heart removed, each one liang), Heishanzhi. All are ground into a fine powder. Take two qian per dose, after meals, mixed with aged Songluo fine tea for administration, three times daily.
Baifan (calcined to dryness, two qian), Bingpian (five fen). All are ground into a fine powder. Use a small amount each time, apply to the nasal polyp, and it will disappear immediately.
Sisheng Wan (Four Living Pills) and Shengdi Liuwei Tang (Rehmannia Six-Ingredient Decoction) are both discussed under the section on Consumption Disease (Xu Lao).
The ear is an external manifestation of the Kidney. The *Zhongzang Jing* states: "The Kidney is the residence of spirit and the root of life, externally connected to the ear." However, the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian both link to the ear. Deafness caused by pathogenic heat from Cold Damage belongs to the Shaoyang syndrome, which is primarily treated with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction). If the illness is not due to external contraction, but involves sudden onset deafness, this is Qi fire rushing upward, named Qi-closure deafness, which should be treated with Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) added with Manjingzi, Shichangpu, and Xiangfu. Long-standing deafness belongs to Kidney deficiency, where Essence and Qi are insufficient and cannot ascend to the ear; this should be treated with Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) added with Gouqi, Renshen, Shichangpu, and Yuanzhi. Tinnitus sounding like cicadas or bells/drums should also be treated according to the aforementioned methods. When Wind-Heat combats and turbid fluids condense, forming obstructions in the ear, or when there is profuse purulent discharge or extreme itching and pain, these are all caused by Wind-Heat in the Jueyin Liver Meridian. This should be treated with Jiawei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder), removing Baizhu, and adding Heye, Mu'er, Beimu, Xiangfu, and Changpu. Externally, Hongmian San (Red Cotton Powder) should be insufflated into the ear. For sores growing inside the ear, the aforementioned medicines plus Jinyinhua (Honeysuckle) should be used. If insects enter the ear, cat urine should be dripped in; onion juice is the next best option. Using sesame oil is discouraged as it may cause the insect to sink deeper into the ear. Another method is to roast pork until fragrant, place it near the ear, pretend to sleep, and let the insect smell the meat fragrance, causing it to exit.
