The thirteen acupoints of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian end here. It starts at Dadun (LR1), passes through Xingjian (LR2), follows Taichong (LR3) to Zhongfeng (LR4), meets Ligou (LR5) and Zhongdu (LR6), and gathers at Yangguan and Ququan (LR8) in the knee region. It then passes through Yinbao (LR9) and Wuli (LR10), reaches Yinlian (LR11) where it branches off; seeking the Sheep's Gland (Yangshi, referring to inguinal lymph nodes) at Zhangmen (LR13), Qimen (LR14) can be treated here.
Dadun is named at the tip of the great toe. Xingjian is stored in the cleft between the great toe and the second toe. Taichong is two cun posterior to the metatarsophalangeal joint. Zhongfeng is one cun anterior to the calcaneus. Ligou is five cun above the medial malleolus. Zhongdu is seven cun above the medial malleolus. Xiguan is two cun below Dubi (ST35). Ququan is at the end of the transverse crease when the knee is flexed. Yinbao is four cun above the patella. Wuli is five cun below Qichong (ST30). Yinlian is two cun below Qichong. The Sheep's Gland is approximately one cun below Qichong. Qichong belongs to the Stomach Meridian and treats conditions one cun above the femoral triangle (Shuxi). The femoral triangle is at the end of the pubic bone, stopping four cun from the midline. Zhangmen is nine cun lateral to Xiawan (CV10); lie on the side to locate the tip of the elbow. Qimen is four cun and five fen lateral to Juque (CV14), without error.
Loin pain occurs because the Liver and Kidney are connected, sharing the same source (Yi-Gui Tong Yuan / Liver-Kidney Homology). Hernia occurs because the Liver Meridian surrounds the genital organs. Swelling of the lower abdomen occurs because the Liver Meridian reaches the lower abdomen. Dryness of the throat occurs because the Liver Meridian follows the pharynx. Facial dustiness and loss of luster occur because the Liver and Gallbladder share pathology. Chest fullness occurs because the Liver Meridian pierces the diaphragm. Vomiting and counterflow qi occur because the Liver Meridian clutches the stomach. Undigested diarrhea occurs because the nature of Wind-Fire is urgent, leading to insufficient digestion. Fox hernia occurs because the Liver Meridian passes over the genital organs.
The Liver stores Blood, belongs to Wood, houses Gallbladder Fire within itself, governs Blood, governs the Eyes, governs the Tendons, governs Shouting, and governs Anger.
Ben Disease (Zang-Fu organ diseases):
Various Wind-induced dizziness and vertigo, (manifestation of Wind-Fire.) Rigid lying and stiffness, epilepsy, (conditions where various Wind-Fire flares upward and damages tendons and vessels.) Pain and swelling of both hypochondria, chest and rib fullness and pain, (The Liver Meridian pierces the diaphragm and spreads over the hypochondria. Although pain and fullness seem like Biao diseases, the Liver is Thunder-Fire; all counterflow rising belongs to Fire, so chest and hypochondriac pain are caused by Fire counterflow. Moreover, since meridians run internally rather than externally, these belong to Ben diseases.) Hernia pain, (Although Biao diseases include hernia and lower abdominal swelling/pain, this is listed as a Ben disease because abdominal pain is collectively termed hernia, not necessarily extending to the testicles.) Masses (Jia), (Blood stasis forms Zhen, Qi stagnation forms Jia.) Women's menstrual disorders. (The Blood Chamber belongs to the Liver Meridian.)
Biao Disease (Meridian diseases):
Chills and fever malaria, (belonging to the same meridian.) Headache with salivation, (The meridian ascends to the forehead and meets at the vertex.) Red eyes, (The meridian ascends to connect with the eye system.) Cyanotic face, (The meridian runs inside the cheek.) Irritability/Anger, (Anger must manifest externally in speech and expression, thus it is a Biao disease.) Ear deafness/closure, (Shaoyang meridian enters the ear, which is the exterior of the Liver.) Cheek swelling, (The meridian runs inside the cheek.) Tendon spasms, (The Liver governs tendons.) Retraction of the testes, male hernia, (The meridian surrounds the genital organs.) Lower abdominal swelling and pain in women, Yin diseases, (The meridian reaches the lower abdomen.)
