(The meridian starts at the Dazhun acupoint and ends at the Qimen acupoint.)
The Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian originates from the tuft of hair at the tip of the great toe, ascends along the upper medial margin of the dorsum of the foot, one cun away from the medial malleolus, and eight cun above the medial malleolus, where it crosses behind the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian. It then ascends along the medial aspect of the thigh, enters the pubic region, passes around the genitalia, reaches the lower abdomen, flanks the stomach, connects with the Liver, and links to the Gallbladder. It pierces the diaphragm, spreads through the hypochondriac region, follows the posterior aspect of the throat, ascends into the nasopharynx (Hangsang), connects with the optic nerve system (Muxi), emerges above the forehead, and meets the Du Meridian at the vertex. A branch descends from the optic nerve system to the deep part of the cheek, encircling the interior of the lips. Another branch diverges from the Liver, pierces the diaphragm, and ascends to pour into the Lungs. When this meridian is disturbed, diseases manifest as low back pain preventing flexion and extension; hernia in men; swelling of the lower abdomen in women; and in severe cases, dryness of the pharynx, a dusty complexion, and loss of luster. The Liver Meridian governs diseases generated by the Liver, including chest fullness, vomiting and regurgitation, undigested food diarrhea, fox hernia, urinary incontinence, and stranguria. For these various conditions: excess is treated by reducing, deficiency by tonifying, heat by rapid needling, cold by retaining the needle, sinking pulse by moxibustion, and neither excess nor deficiency by selecting points on the affected meridian. In excess patterns, the Cun Kou pulse is larger than the Ren Ying pulse by one fold; in deficiency patterns, the Cun Kou pulse is slightly smaller than the Ren Ying pulse.
"The transverse crease after the three hairs" refers to the tufted hair area. "Muxi" refers to the connections deep within the eyeball. "Hangsang" refers to the nasopharynx.
The Foot-Jueyin Meridian receives qi and blood transmission from the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. It originates at Dazhun (LR1) in the tuft of hair at the great toe, ascends along the upper medial margin of the foot, passing through Xingjian (LR2) and Taichong (LR3) to reach Zhongfeng (LR4) one cun anterior to the medial malleolus. Ascending past the medial malleolus, it crosses Sanyinjiao (SP6), passes through Ligou (LR5) and Zhongdu (LR8), ascends another cun to cross behind the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian, travels up the medial thigh to Xiguan (LR7) and Ququan (LR8), follows the medial thigh through Yinbao (LR9), Wuli (LR10), and Yinlian (LR11), enters the pubic hair region, intersects left and right, surrounds the genitalia, reaches the lower abdomen, ascends along Zhangmen (LR13), arrives at Qimen (LR14), flanks the stomach, connects with the Liver, and links downward to the Gallbladder. From Qimen, it pierces the diaphragm, spreads through the hypochondriac region, follows the posterior throat, ascends into the nasopharynx, connects with the optic nerve system, emerges above the forehead, and meets the Du Meridian at the vertex. A branch descends from the optic nerve system to the deep cheek, crossing and encircling the interior of the lips. Another branch diverges from the Liver connection at Qimen, pierces the diaphragm, ascends to pour into the Lungs, descends to the level of Zhongwan (CV12), and connects with the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian.
