(The meridian starts at the Yinbai point and ends at the Dabao point.)
The Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian originates at the tip of the great toe, follows the medial white skin margin of the toe, passes behind the nuclear bone (the medial malleolus area/root of the great toe), ascends to the anterior edge of the medial malleolus, goes up along the medial aspect of the lower leg, runs posterior to the tibia, crosses anterior to the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian, ascends along the anterior edge of the medial knee and thigh, enters the abdomen, connects with the Spleen organ, and links with the Stomach organ. It passes through the diaphragm, flanks the pharynx, connects with the root of the tongue, and scatters under the tongue. Its branch separates from the Stomach, ascends through the diaphragm, and pours into the Heart.
When this meridian is disturbed, diseases manifest as: stiffness of the tongue root, vomiting after eating, epigastric pain, abdominal distension, frequent belching, a feeling of relief similar to symptom alleviation after defecation or passing gas, and heaviness of the body. The diseases primarily governed by the Spleen include: pain at the tongue root, inability to move the body, difficulty in swallowing food, vexation, urgent pain in the epigastrium, loose stools or dysentery with masses, urinary retention, jaundice, inability to lie flat, swelling or coldness in the inner thighs and knees when standing forcibly, and dysfunction of the great toe. For these various diseases, excess conditions are treated with draining methods, deficiency conditions with tonifying methods, heat conditions with rapid needling, cold conditions with retained needle techniques, sinking pulse conditions with moxibustion, and neither-excess-nor-deficiency conditions are treated by selecting points on the affected meridian. Excess conditions present with the Cun Kou pulse being three times larger than the Ren Ying pulse; deficiency conditions present with the Cun Kou pulse being smaller than the Ren Ying pulse.
The "nuclear bone" refers to the round bone on the medial side behind the metatarsophalangeal joint of the great toe. The calf muscle area is called "Shuan". The inner thigh is called "Gu". The area above the umbilicus is called "Fu" (abdomen). The pharynx is the pathway of the stomach system. The tongue root is the base of the tongue.
The Foot-Taiyin Splein Meridian receives intersection Qi from the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. It originates at the Yinbai point at the tip of the great toe, follows the medial white skin margin through the Dadu point, passes behind the nuclear bone, traverses the Taibai, Gongsun, and Shangqiu points, ascends to the Sanyinjiao point at the anterior edge of the medial malleolus, goes up the medial leg, ascends through the Lougu point posterior to the tibia, crosses anterior to the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian, reaches the Diji and Yinlingquan points, ascends along the anterior edge of the medial knee and thigh through the Xuehai and Jimen points, winds into the abdomen, passes through the Chongmen and Fushé points, follows the Fujie and Dacheng points, meets the Xiawan point, traverses the Fu'ai point, passes the boundary of the Qimen point, runs deep within its own meridian, descends to the vicinity of the Zhongwan point, thereby connecting with the Spleen and linking with the Stomach. It then ascends from the Fu'ai point through the diaphragm, passes through the Shidou, Tianxi, Xiongxiang, and Zhourong points, curves downward to the Dabao point. From the Dabao point, it curves outward and upward, meets the Zhongfu point, ascends deeply into the Ren Ying area, flanks the throat, connects with the tongue root, and scatters under the tongue to terminate. Its branch separates from the Fu'ai point, ascends from the lateral side of the Zhongwan point in the Stomach through the diaphragm, pours into the deep area of the Danzhong point corresponding to the Heart, and intersects with the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian.
